Focus ST vs 135i

Ah, yes... the old defence of tappit draggers being able to circumvent basic physics. Should've expected that. :p

 even more now.

I said, till date I have not seen a 1.35i win against an ST, nor have I seen an ST beat a Subaru WRX STi. This has nothing to do with physics. But all about which car is faster. Non repeatable lap times does nothing for me :p

firstly a lot of very uninformed people on this thread ... :)

i had a 135i and a 335i (for those that did not know) ... someone made a comment that it could have been a 125i and not a 135i, and this is very valid. A 125i with an msport kit looks very similar to a 135i and if you don't know the subtle differences you will never know. Those differences include a blacked out dual exhaust pipe, the 135i does not have any fog lights, and the calipers have the BMW lettering on them! ... its subtle esp the fog lights, i did not pick this one up until i owned one ...

The 135i does not have a sport button or launch control with either manual or auto transmissions. With the altitude in GP the car is extremely quick, quicker than an RS4, SLK55, DCT M3 through the gears (eg, rolling second etc) except rolling 1st, quicker than an Z4 Mcoupe. Whats interesting the hiding the 135i gave to an SLK55 up here was the same hiding the 135i got from the SLK55 in Cape Town :) ... both the same cars used in both runs ...

Against now the ST, if anyone want to tell me that a stock ST is quicker is talking an entire load of bull****! ... and i will put R50k down to prove that a stock ST vs stock 135i, the 135i will not just beat put totally annihilate the ST ... any takers ... ? I ran one with my pig weighted 335i convertible and it was not even a contest to start off with ... BUT any car given the money and time can be made to do some serious times ... if that ST is running 234km/h on a km stretch, it is insanely quick. My E46 M3 at the time could manage only a 200, 996 turbo Porsche 230km/h odd ... heck my current RS according to car Mag does 240km/h on a km ... so in the end its just unfair to compare a modded car to stock, simply because its a case of "how long is a piece of string", the possibilities are very high in terms of "how fast" when it comes to modding.

Then someone said the 135i is not a race car when compared to an ST ... you joking right? The next time you standing next to a 135i, have a look at those brake calipers ... its just BMW's way of saying this car is about performance. Many other components on the car are geared towards performance... do a bit of research on the web and you will see this ... many have commented that the car could have gotten the ///M naming ....

give me a track, and give me a straight line and ill show you just how bad a hiding the ST will catch from a 135i ... but its unfair to compare the two cars, one is a single turbo 2.5L motor versus a 3.0 twin turbo (or biturbo)

heck given the time and money someone can mod their UNO turbo to kill my RS :) ... and ive seen some very quick UNO's so i dont doubt that :)

In the end if someone wanted to swap their 135i for an ST, the ST owner would not hesitate for a second, cause he knows its the better car and him denying this, just means he is "jelas!!!" ...

RS quicker than a 996 Turbo in a straight line?

im checking :) ... i know that 996 turbo's use to get those speeds here at Wesbank ... the 997 GT3 RS speed was from the car mag ... remember i have the 997 and not 996 GT3 RS. Maybe someone can pull out an old mag testing the 996 Turbo and say what the km sprint terminal speed was

EDIT: can only find the 997 turbo 1km sprint which is 247km/h

They have changed the CAR website - so I can't even find the test, but it used to be up there.

I used to know the stats offhand, as my stepfather has one and it's possibly the quickest car I've ever been in. I know it was a test 4.1 or something - but don't recall the 1KM sprint.

RS a turbo? Otherwise I'm sure a 996 Turbo would take it up here - but that said, I dunno the specs of the RS ;)

you might be right ... thats why i would like to see the car mag results, as it is an apples to apples comparison ...

EDIT:
the technical data is from the manufacturer

exactly ... how long is a piece of string ... Louis Lima ... is that the guys name?? did he not have a sub 10 second 1400??? ...

The Louis Lima bakkie is by far the meanest 1400 I have ever seen. That one is not it. But I will never pay that much for anything other than the best 1400.

As rightfully said by adamr - The Lima bakkie :p

There are a few dyno runs for that bakkie on Youtube for those who don't know what I'm talking about :)

The track times kinda puts the old words of Colin Chapman (of Lotus fame) into perspective, "to add speed, add lightness".

listen to adamr :P his right :)

and also the status of a 135 vs an ST can't compare :/ but i think its more 22 - 27 will want an ST.. whereas the BM appeal comes a little later on :P

Just wish he'd call out the uninformed by name. :p

Only until you've driven one. That straight-six twin-turbo is a gem of an engine... the only Beemer more fun to drive that I've personally experienced was an E46 M3 CSL... crappy flappy paddles be damned, that thing is orgasmic.

the 135 is not turbo charged is it? takes a few secs longer to reach his torque lines, whereas the ST would get it upfront. Not to mention it probably wasnt stock anyway.
135i is twin turbocharged.

I dropped a 135 from pull-off in a 1.9dci cause i get all my torque right then and there. of course by before 3rd gear he comes past like a jet but anyway ;)
Two likely scenarios here:
1. You're confusing the 135i with another model, such as the 125i or 120i.

2. The driver of the 135i was not dicing you in any way.

I've driven a 135i convertable, and trust me, if you mash the accelrator pedal to the floor it will crush pretty much everything out there (extremely modified Focus STs excluded :D )

Nah, it sets a pretty platform for an apology from Pitbull... and JK8...

Nah, I dont think a worked ST will leave a 135 in such dramatic fashion as the OP stated. At last years Hot Hatch Festivals, even the strong STs couldnt make decent 400m times.
