I cannot fathom why some people have such a major issue with them - the beams do not intersect - they are aimed downwards towards the road and therefore do not blind anyone apart from the odd ex-dog or cat. If they were blinding, they'd be so on their own, which they certainly are not...
I dunno how to explain it but they definitely affect your vision. On a wet road surface it's x10 worse, because of them pointing down the reflection/scatter off the wet surface really blinds drivers of oncoming vehicles.
Why not simply obey the law? It's not like it's unique to SA either so we can't all be be wrong.
