Fog Lamps.....

/snipped for lack of aesthetics caused by stupidly big letters

Ever used a steak knife to cut something other than steak. You probably shouldn't, the clue is in the name after all. Oh, and front fog lights are low because that puts them below fog, not because they are bright. They are no brighter than normal dipped beams, or shouldn't be at least.

They share another thing with dipped beams, a sharp cut-off in order to not cast a full beam in the eyes of other motorists. Interestingly the only thing that separates high beam from low - a sharp cut-off - on most cars they are equally bright.

It is against the law here already. Just two problems :

1. We have police that don't enforce it.
2. We have citizens who don't seem to give a damn about breaking the law.

So what you are saying is that most people don't have brains & zero consideration for others

i use my front fogs at night when i'm driving... it helps me see better and i feel more comfortable having them on when driving at night . i don't see the problem with them at all, it also helps other driver on the road see me coming a mile away :D which is always good. really dont see a problem.... what is a problem is mor0ns on the road in the dead of night driving with no lights on or very dim lights (hardly noticable), i've actually seen a number of drivers with no lights on during the night ...

Do yourself a favour and read that study that I took the time to post earlier....

You'll see that using your fog lights merely creates the illusion that you can see more and makes you feel safer. The reality is that it actually impairs your long distance vision. All of this of course ignores the effect on other users which I fully understand is of little importance to you as it has become apparent that those who use fog lights only think about themselves anyway.

Pointing out other morons on the road, like those without lights, does not change the fact that those with fog lights on are also morons... it merely increases the number of morons us decent, considerate drivers have to deal with!

Oh lawd, the argumentative-for-the-sake-of-it-without-ever-admitting-fault nitwit is here. Conversation is about to take a nosedive. I'll leave this to those with some patience for simpletons then...

tell me bout it :p

i'm not gonna reply to these simpletons any longer ... can you believe naks actually drew a comparison about driving with your fogs on to someone breaking into your house :erm: jeez

this coming from you... lol

keep your study, i have my own personal study and guess what, its says i can continue to drive with my fogs on

goodbye

:D

front fog lights are low because that puts them below fog
The fog in turn removes the glare and visibility of them for other motorists. Just as a long distance between cars reduces the visibility of brights for other motorist. Ever wondered why people switch off brights when another car comes closer? Well the same logic applies to fog lights.

If you must drive with them on, do it as you would with brights. Don't ever use them on a wet road when there is no fog - that is twice as bad. Its like taking a steak knife to circumcise yourself.

thats more diplomatic

i will take that into consideration when driving.

this coming from you... lol

Really have no idea what that is meant to mean...

...and this attitude proves my "study" which indicates that most people who drive with fog lights on an inconsiderate, self centred idiots. Thanks.

I'll hopefully meet you coming in my direction on the road one day and give you a bit of your own medicine.

HA HA HA how ironic!!!

And then I step in and my reason are bulletproof with no possible chance of a valid counter argument. I really am that good. Trust me.
Well... Why don't you test the light and glare removal properties of fog for yourself next time you're driving through some by switching on your brights? :p If you were the only person driving in a patch of fog, any other light apart from that coming from your fog lights be it direct, reflected or scattered by the fog, would hamper your ability to see. However seeing that there are those pesky other road users it becomes a bit of a catch-22. Their being visible to you takes precedence. But, seeing that you are that good, any time when the below would be the pertinent course of action?

Yes - when driving its best to not circumcise yourself with a steak knife.
?

Yes, and using multiple exclamation marks is a clear sign of someone that wears their underwear on their head.

Tell you what, Lance. I've asked numerous people in a courteous fashion to please turn off their rear fog lights when it is clear. Those unfamiliar with their cars I've even shown how to & drawn their attention the the little amber light on the dash. The first time someone directs the same request to me regarding my use of my front fogs I'll not only post on here, I'll even send you a PM with a link to the thread. Heck maybe because I go to the trouble to ensure that my car's lights are properly adjusted I'm just not annoying other people in the way you so frantically want to suggest I am?

15+ years and counting.

Front fog lights on = "I am p1ss cool", nothing more
Rear fog lights on = "I am fsuk stupid"

As for Lead SA and the "switch your lights on during the day" initiative ... Do you really think it is safer? Not if you are the biker splitting lanes on the highway. If only bikes have their headlights on, it is quite easy to see them approaching in your rearview mirrors, but if all the cars behind you have their lights on it becomes a bit more difficult. This, unfortunately, has now lead to some bikers having their high beams on all the time.

On another note, thanks to all the drivers out there who "Think Bike". To the occasional idiot who tries to cut us off because "he has to sit in traffic", so so should the biker: We're part of the solution buddy, not the problem, the fact that I'm not in my car is making things slightly better for you as well.

Think Bike supports the Lights On campaign and have advised bikers to get amber front light lenses/stickers/covers to stand out from the crowd. I must admit that it (amber lights) has helped me beter see bikes in the traffic in the past.

OK - let me put it this way and perhaps some up some of the wisdom I have dispensed here in some previous posts.
If you drive with your fog lights on and there is no fog I will circumcise you with a steak knife.

OMG, the irony again!

Yep... intended irony in that case, as my post was in response to yours:

They are an issue!!

You'll note the interspersed 1s. I thought of adding an "eleventy" but I thought the facetious nature thereof would be obvious. Guess I gave you too much credit. Have a look at urbandictionary in order to understand my intention:
A commonly used mockery of 1337 talkers, derived from the over-use of exclamation marks after a declaration. Since many people preferred using the Caps-Lock to the shift key, they would be unskilled with the shift key (if such a thing is possible) and it would end up coming out as !!!1!!!!111!!!! or things along that line. "Eleventy" or "Eleventy-one" refers to the groupings of ones located in an overly long string of exclamation marks.

Sorry, I speak English... I apologise for not perving at animated female characters, thinking my WOW character is my real life persona, and speaking geek speak.

EDIT : I'm not sure if your repeated mentioning of how long you have been driving is meant to impress me, or perhaps you have an idea that I have only been driving for a few years, but just to set the record straight I have been driving for 20+ years and I say people driving with fog lights are idiots.
