FON Router issues with ssh/scp and a solution

Well I've settled on just using a Tenda Dual Band Router I had laying around behind the Mweb Router with it's own PPPoE account.

Interestingly I've connected to two FON Points in the last two weeks while out and about and chek don't the FON App map it seems to have worked really well in broadening their network.

I plugged my TG589VN V3 in today and have also had countless SSH issues.

That ssh_config change did help, but it's still incredibly painful. I can get into a box but trying to do anything is just laggy, and I sometimes have to press a char for output to continue, like with an ls or tail. There's definitely something screwy with QoS here.

Does anyone else still experience this?

Hi zamrg

Please see PM.

Does anyone know if MWeb will provide a firmware update to fix this? I don't want to have to use this hack all the time.

I hope so! This is hands down the worst router I have ever owned!!! Nothing really just works... Somehow I have an invisible NAT rule that doesn't show up on any menu's and I can't get rid of. Not to mention this SSH issue...

What were they thinking....

In typical MWEB fashion, 8 months later something gets done about an issue.
Great Network, super slow Support :/

Just a quick update on the terms and condition if you got your router from mweb

Subject to customers signing 6 month contract.
Subject to customers activating their Fon router within 60 days from the date of receipt of router. If the Fon service is not activated within 60 days from date of receipt of router, MWEB reserves the right to bill customers for the full cost of the router (R799.00).
Offer includes free delivery.
Offer excludes range extender.

Here you go... From another thread.

I have managed to unlock the Mweb TG589vn v3 router. See my guide: http://devrandom.za.net/blog/2014/02/16/unlocking-the-free-mweb-tg589vn-v3-vdsl-fon-router/ It is running now generic Technicolor firmware with root SSH access!

I know this is living in the past but have you also found that if you use the Router as a modem only and pass a WAN IP to a Router behind it that you can't SSH through to that Router (or the network behind it) as it brings up the Technicolor SSH instead?

I cannot get the bloody VLAN ID to pass on my WAN traffic no mater what router I use behind the thing so my only option has been to let the Technicolor assign the WAN IP which works fine enough for everything except SSH.

I'm not convinced the thing fully passed control over because of this and don't really smaak it.

Anywhere to get even newer firmware for the thing?

Ditch it! I hate this damn router. I am using it now because I am on SDSL, but the end is nigh!

At my hourly rate I could've bought a car for the amount of time I spent on this friggin' router.
