For those with Plasmas?

Hello,

I have a quick choice to make, i ordered the Samsung 50B450 (720p) set over 2 months ago, and it is finally arriving today. I "chuned" the sales guys for extra's since i've been waiting so long. So the salesman comes back to me and says, he got permission to give me the 50B550 (1080p + 24p) for an extra R500. I have done extensive research into the B450, so anybody with the B550 for advice, i'll most appreciate it.

Go for it without thinking!!!

I run the LG 50FH70 1080p plasma, and run a Sumvision Cyclone ( like a Mede8er, only cheaper and better :) ) and my mkv 1080p rips look 95% of Blu-Ray. The upscaling of even my avi collection is stunning.

Went ahead and paid the extra bucks. Guess this way i'm sorta future proofing myself too. Now to wait until Saturday!!!:)

Well, not there is not a big difference on SD content, but if you are going to connect a pc to it, there will be a world of difference. I mostly watch 720p or 1080p mkv. IMO upscaled 720p definitely looks better on a 1080p panel than on a 720p panel... difference between 1080p and 720p content is hardly noticible at viewing distance.
 
I think i made the right choice. I sit +- 3 m from the TV, so at 50" i will probably notice the difference. Have a lot of HD content, so will just have to re-watch it all
 
Yes, definitely. What did you end up paying? R13k?
 
I have the B550 which I got towards the end of last year and I'm super chuffed with it. I paid R13,600 for mine last year, so the deal you got is really great. I have a Mede8er hooked up to it and it really comes alive with great HD content. Although I still watch a lot of SD content on DSTV, it still looks miles better than my old CRT.

Dude, enjoy your TV man. I'm sure you cannot wait till Saturday.

But do let us know how it all goes.
 
Actually, the R13,600 was ex VAT. I paid R15,504 for it and picked it up from Frontosa who had the best price at the time (November '09). Man, this is such a good deal and I'm very envious of the price. I could of had an HD-PVR if I could of got it at that price. But do let us know where you are getting it from.

My guess is that the models are being phased out for the 2010 models due to hit us soon.
