For those with Plasmas?

Hey sorry chaps, been setting it all up, and out of town.

TV is ridiculous! Went from a 32" lcd to this monster! Gosh, can't believe the picture difference! The picture is so deep, if that makes sense. And that's with the setting dialled way down.

Got the TV from Hirsch's, price incl VAT, and no it wasn't a demo or stock damage. So, they can make those deals, they just don't want to cut commissions. Totally blown away at the quality of the image, SD tv looks good, no ghosting, even at that size, it's better than what my lcd was. Watched the new star trek on blu ray the other night. Just truly amazing. You have to get used to the picture it's so good.

Glad i've gone to plasma, even though i loved my little LCD.

The Samsung shop at Canal Walk has the 42" Plasma, 450 model, for R7999.
Looks like a nice tv.

Was originally going to get the 42B450, saw excellent reviews for it. The best price i could manage for it was R7499, so that's not a bad price at all.

R7499? Where? I'll go buy one now.

Again at Hirsch's.
Just squeeze the salesmen, and if you not happy, ask to speak to the store manager, or e-mail him. And just keep on sqeezing until they say the have to get Mr Hirsch to sign it off, then you know youv'e arrived.

Not in CT :(
Your 50" is R12999 on their site.

Just a general question here:
If you are watching something through HDMI on your plasma, and pause it, does anybody else see green and red pixels "dancing" in the black areas? YOu can't see it sitting, but close up i can see them. Is that just the nature of the plasma tech, or is it something else. It doesn't look like it does it in SD, only through PC or HDMI? Anyone?

It's the orbiter and dithering tech of the plasma doing its magic to prevent phosphor burn-in, do not stress at all.Enjoy your set, its a great, great buy.I myself have my eyes on the 2010 Panasonic plasma range - has a new filter for KURO black levels (G,V and 3D VT series only).Checkout http://panasonic.net/avc/viera/ .Expected arrival in S.A should be June for G and V series...

Useful Tip: if you are watching Blu-ray content and select the "Screen Fit" viewing mode for 1:1 pixel matching, the orbiter will be turned off so beware of doing this for first 100 hours or so - I just keep my settings on 16:9, even for Blu-Ray, but if you want pixel perfect pictures for 1080p content -"screen fit" is the way to go.It's beautiful.

Excellent.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm sure the new 2010 sets are going to be amazing. I just don't want to know how much they cost though. When they do land, i'll try find a store carrying them, just to drool on the floor!

Funny thing is, the prices will be about the same or less, so around 20k for 50inch full HD Panasonic G series, and 30k for V and about 35-40K for VT 3D series - its still a lot, but the KURO's were 80-90K two years ago :D

Samsung has also made huge strides in black levels and picture quality for this year, their new 8000 series 3D Plasma is extremely thin and also has a new black filter - expected around August...also new C450,C550 and 6500,7000 series plasma's for April-June.

Haven't really noticed. Will check tonight and let you know...

I checked at home during lunch.
Have a 42" Samsung plasma, and a WD media player, paused it and saw nothing like that.
Same as a tube tv.

I just taken my 6 month old Sammy 50A410 to Advanced Electronics for repairs. It's suffering from severe image retention!!! The technician says it's either a faulty panel or y-scan. If it's the panel the set must be replaced so here's hoping it's the panel.

Next question, the 50A410's still available???? Hope not... Cause then it's automatically upgraded to the next best available model... :D

Are you covered for screen burn in your warranty?
Mine says it ain't covered.

This is different to screen burn. Screen burn is permanent and normally due to a image or logo being displayed on the screen for extended periods of time at high contrasts and or brightness, image retention temporary. Image retention is occurring after only a couple of minutes and at low contrast and brightness levels. More a latent defect in the set than traditional screen burn.... At least this is how I understand it...

Ok. I got mine on Monday, and when I read through the manual I got the impression that they ain't covering it.
They do have a screen burn protection built in, that you need to swith on.
There's also a little program that clears out the pixels for you.

Check in the manual.

Well aware meneer but this is something different. Screen burn can be avoided by running the set in. The image retention I'm suffering from cannot. A logo displayed on the screen for as short as 60seconds shows up on the white screen and/or scrolling screen... This is severe... If I were to watch a rugby match the score bar would be visible on other channels for 30 minutes after the game had finished...

IR is common though in Plasma, nature of the tech. I get IR, but it doesn't phase me. It goes away. All plasma's get IR. As far as i have read, it gets better with age and use. Not sure they can do anything to fix it.

A series is long gone, so they'll hopefully change it with a B series.

Not so sure about that. I had a PVision plasma before this and never any signs of screen burn or IR. Also have a 42" Sammy B430 and perfect, no signs what so ever of either screen burn or IR but my 50" Sammy different story. The set is 6 months old and I was meticulous while running it in for the 1st 200 hours. The IR this set exhibits is far from normal. I can literally have a logo displayed for 60 seconds and it's clearly visible in the white screen or scrolling screen setups. Same thing happens when I call up the electronic tv guide. Literally 120-150sec I can be scrolling through it before exiting and the images remains. Faint and barely visible but way beyond normal parameters...

That would be 1st prize yes :-)
