For those with Plasmas?

Just slightly off topic, has anyone seen a brief moment of the screen increasing in brightness, and then going back to normal? I think i saw it very briefly, but it could have been my PC, as i haven't seen it again, or through any other input.

Sandmanm34, good luck. I really hope the panel replacement is the answer. IF so, Samsung is my next call!

Thanks. Cant say I've ever experienced the brightness spike you talk of.

Got my set back today around 3pm. New panel. Going to give it the 200 hour running in period and we will then see...

Early signs not looking good. Even at low settings after watching the Stormers game on Saturday there is image retention.

That's no good sandman. Is it as bad as your previous panel? or still to early to tell. I gave my tv a thorough once over on sunday, and noticed, there is alarge dent in the back cover. The screws don't line up so the panel has a small lift, basically the dent. Doesn't seem to affect the TV, but going to report it anyways. Was hoping the new panel would be so much better.

Yip, pretty disappointing really. Doesn't seem as bad as the old panel no. Will see after the breaking in process. Fact of the matter is a modern day plasma shouldn't need breaking in.. Grossly over rated product IMHO, Samsung plasma's...

@ sandman , what are you using for your break in process ? contrast , brightness 50 ? I just got my LG back today (they replaced the panel it seems , how do I check for that?). I also notice that the IR is still there :( Will do the break-in again , eish.

Yip, contrast and brightness at 50, dynamic contrast off. Run the set with these settings for 200 hours (I have my set currently on 10 hours a day so that I can get this process out the way within the next 20 days).

I have no idea how to check if the panel actually been replaced or not. Guess you have to take their word for it.

Just my 2c.

I've got approximately 30 hours on my set, and it seems as if some days IR is better than other? Temperature changes? But i tested via PC, the static windows on "normal" viewing settings, and IR was in there like a flash. But ran the scroller for 2 minutes and was gone. I did this test when i got the set, sort of as a benchmark, and it has improved a hell of a lot. Are you guys not happy with your purchases? I don't find the IR bugs me.

Do you watch much sport? On any given weekend there 7 games of rugby on, more if you include Six Nations etc The bottom inch of the screen is normally where the score and time is displayed. In the standard setting mode after 40 minutes of being displayed that scorebar remains there for hours. Now try 560 minutes (7 matches). That score bar remains on my screen for days unless I run the screen protection tool for around an hour. That clears it up but for me this IR makes the product unusable..

With the new panel I'm running at 50%. This weekend past I watched the Stormers vs Highlanders in HD, standard settings and the score bar was prevalent for hours after the game ended. Most annoying..

Yours is way worse than mine. Most of the time my IR dissapears quite quickly. Sometimes an hour or two but I cant recall it being that long. Even after watching SS2 through a whole cricket match, the SS2 logo remains for about 15-20 minutes after I change the channel. It then dissapears though.

You can only be sure that its gone by checking your scrolling screen in the screen burn protection options. Have you used this setting before?

IR doesn't bug me - thank goodness, but the SS scorebar does disappear after about an hour or so. The thing is that the only time I notice IR is when I change to a source with no video feed - ie. a black screen, but besides that I don't notice it.

My only gripe at the moment is the "ghosting" I see from images/text on a solid (mainly white) background. The funny thing is that my wife doesn't notice it at all, even if I point it out.

I got a call from Liptronics, who are the Samsung repair agents in Cape Town. They're picking up my TV tomorrow.

You lucky. I'm so conscious of it and am constantly looking for it. It's ruining the whole experience.

That ghosting sounds irritating too. Let us know the outcome....

If they picking your set up tomorrow no Super14 or Six nations for you this weekend!!! I would defer them to Monday. :)

sandmanm34, hehee, good move! I called them and rescheduled for Tuesday since that is when they're in my area to come and collect.

Yep, did use it a few times. I'm with IPod as in that if I skip to a screen with no inputs you are able to see the IR but it soon dissapears. Am still going to call Samsung though.

Sometimes the samsung screen saver leaves images of itself all over the screen. looks really weird. Other times it is as clear as day. Not sure whats up with that. Seems as if the tv is quite temperamental. lol.

IR is the reason I went LCD.

When buying, people said IR doesn't effect new plasmas and protection etc Bought a 42" plasma and when I did the IR, I was told it was cheap and it doesn't do it with expensive plasmas.

Went LCD and love it

I'm beginning to think it's more luck of the draw. I got a Pvision plasma about 4 years ago. Never gave me a days trouble. Got a 42" Sammy about 8 months ago, no problems. Got the 50" Sammy more or less the same time and IR.... I just don't get it. Must have something to do with the quality and/or source of the panels used...

I've also had LCD's and they certainly have their advantages but SD playback is not one of them and I dislike that greyness to the picture where plasma is black and has a richness which you don't get with LCD...

That was my fear - until I saw the Samsung B650. Read up the reviews and check what they say about the blacks ; you probably won't find too much darker, other than LED - which is still considerably close.

IR is a bit of an issue but I have both, LCD and Plasma and I still prefer the Plasma over the LCD. The picture quality is just way better for me.
