Its the Big Brother mentality at work...
I don't understand the issue. Most people worked from an office all the time. If the company wants you back at the office - then go?
And before the inventive of toilet paper people used corn cobs to wipe their asses. I'm NOT going back to that.

I`ll rather quit than go back to the office. There are many companies now that allow wfh. People should stop behaving like slaves and do the right thing, which is wfh if you can. Screw the micro-manager location controlling boss freaks.
Bit like getting a bank loan - can get them when you don't need the money. Easy to get a job when you have options. Probably good to line up the next role/business before you leave your previous one in a huff.Bravely said until you are without a job and suddenly realize how difficult it is to get a job. 3 months turns to 6 turns to 12 and each prospective employer once to know two things:
1. Why did you quit your job?
2. Why are you finding it so difficult to get another job.
Telling them it's the market or the jobs are scarce doesn't help, their ears are blocked to that, goes right over their heads. And so the snowball gets bigger and bigger and so do the bills.
You'll wish you had just gone back to the office. Think your boss is mean? Wait till you see how mean and ugly life can get when you are unemployed.
So then no-one had to work from home. It isn't the place listed on their contract. Before COVID were you in the office. When you started your job did you sign a letter of appointment and the office premises were where you worked from..................we there you have it.

People are different. I am not junior and my skills are in demand. I`m basically ready to retire. The world has changed. People are becoming more individualistic and less blindly conformant and rightly so. Bring on the milleneals who work only on what they want, where they want, when they want, and I say good luck to the old school boss who thinks he can still control people unwisely.Bravely said until you are without a job and suddenly realize how difficult it is to get a job. 3 months turns to 6 turns to 12 and each prospective employer once to know two things:

The point is that regardless of whether they were compelled by circumstances companies have created the precedent by having employees working from home, and unless they can show a negative impact on delivery they lack valid grounds to compel people to work in the office every day.
Haven’t worked out of a formal company office for 14 years, no reason to change a good habit. Many South African employers are trying to get their employees back to the office. What would you do if your employer ended working from home, and demanded you return to the office full time?

The lockdowns never happened? I hadn't realised it was all a dream.No-ones compelling anyone to do anything
