If I look at my router status, it seems I can easily handle 10mb to my house

Modulation Type ADSL_G.dmt
Downstream Upstream
Current Rate(Kbps) 4096 512
Max Rate(Kbps) 11180 1116
Noise Margin(dB) 22.7 14
Attenuation(dB) 10.5 3.5
Output Power(dBm) -4.5 4.5

Is there any way to force it to go up? I have tried different modulation types but it just hangs while trying to establish the connection.

Not sure, but have you tried changing your Modulation type to, I think adsl2?

Your exchange/DSLAM does not support faster speeds yet if it refuses to connect on other modulations like ADSL2+.

You can try and phone Telkom and ask them to increase your speed to 8Mbps, because that is the maximum speed on G.DMT modulation in SA.

Thanks, I tried and they basically laughed in my face ...

They can't tell me when, or even if my exchange will ever be upgraded. Pathetic ...

Hi There,
I am sure that we all would like to know when our lines are going to be upgraded. I know that I want to know. If as Pada says it won't connect on ADSL2+ then patience is what you will have to use. By the way what ISP package are you using? If you are paying for a 10MB then you may be paying more than you should as it is never going to connect at that while the physical connection is where it is.

Regards

Tim

I am with WebAfrica and I have a capped account, and my line is also with WebAfrica with up to 10mb.

So my downloads basically runs as fast as my line can handle. Wasn't there someone on the forum that could tell you when you exchange will be upgraded?

I am happy with 4mbs. A speed upgrade will mean upping my ISP monthly bill from R397 to something in the region of R1000. I don't need that.
