Hi guys
Just a quick question. I bought a ford ecosport brand new from a dealership. We filled the tank and drove 5km home. The tank showed full and onboard computer estimated 700+km i could drive with the tank.
This morning we started the car and now the tank is just above 3 quarters and computer shows we can drive only 560km.
Is this normal?
My problem with this I that when you bought the car brand new from the dealer, they should have filled the tank for you.
Do they stop filling it when it clicks or did they overfill it?
On the first fill up I wouldn't expect the "Range" view to be accurate as it hasn't built up a fuel economy average from the previous tank.
So it would have given you a few based on the "current" consumption whereas when you start it the next morning it would have taken the average consumption overall to give you a figure which would probably be less.
I think this is much of a muchness to be panicking about within 24 hours.

I would be more in a panic about why the car was delivered without a full tank of Diesel? Surely you paid on the road fees for the vehicle and this is normally included in there.
Even a second hand car I would be offended if it didn't come with a full tank.
Sounds like you bought a demo model..
Should have kept your Etios, it was a better car it seems.
But, this is not my problem.
When I fill up the tank and start the vehicle, the gauge shows totally full. The onboard pc shows my driving range as 725km (Just to add - I filled the tank twice. On both occassions it was filled to the top. I made sure of it the second time around).
If I drive around the corner, stop the vehicle, shut it down and start it again, the gauge now shows a 3-quarter tank and driving range as 560km.
And, yes, they did not give me a full tank, as they forgot. They offered me to come back and get a free tank on them. Hell, the vehicle wasn't even washed or cleaned inside for that matter when I took delivery. The onboard radio even still had someone else's cellphone programmed into the bluetooth in it...
However, I do not care about the tank diesel at all. This is a 300k car, brand new, off the floor with technical / electrical or even mechanical problems.
Or it's something that would resolve itself during the break-in period and is working as per design.
At least drive a tank or two empty before you panic.
What if you do get a brand new car and it does the same thing?
I probably would have had I not seen online that this was a very common problem on a number of Ford vehicles and all had the same calibration issues. At the time there were no software available and it still appears to be the problem as no one could confirm this.
Also, I probably would have if this was not such a major problem as it currently is.
Then I will go through the same process, get my money back and move onwards to Hyundai and buy myself the IX35.

Lets do the maths here just btw...
He got the Etios 11 days ago (according to him).. based on a post from 12 days ago, so effectively he managed to get a "new" car in the space of a day, which I doubt.
Then he has traded the Etios in on the Ecosport, in what must be at most 7 days from date of "taking" ownership, since he has had time to bitch about the car and fill it up twice now.
Sorry, but as of now I'm calling BS. Nobody gets a "new" car that quickly, twice, and takes the kind of financial bath he has willingly, and seems to be prepared to do again.

Why would you buy a brand new Etios and trade it in a week later? That is a waste of about R 30k just from new to trade in a week...
Are you serious?
Well thats what hitchcock is claiming...

He posted on the 11th that he had picked it up the day before in the Etios thread,
and in this thread he claimed he had traded it in on the Ecosport.
I don't know what the waiting time is for a new car, but its more than a week.. considering my last "pre-owned" purchase for cash took about 4 days to happen...
