I currently have a Peugeot 208 for my wife which is 30 months old. While we are happy with the car, my brilliant contact at the local dealership is leaving and this means that my "deadly depreciation avoidance" contact with the Peugeot brand will no longer be where I need him.

My wife has been eyeing the Ecosport for some time. Ford SA along with Ford Credit (read ABSA) are currently dropping R18k of discount on the Ambiente entry level model which is amazing condsidering how well the vehicle has been selling and the associated stock shortages.

My contact can get me out of the 208 with a very small settlement shortfall, while predictably other car dealerships want up to R50k pay in to settle the car - a definite sign to jump!

Anyone own an Ecosport? We test drove the diesel which will obviously have more power than the 1.5 petrol in the Ambiente but we really loved the vehicle. Interior is hard plastic but no worse than my T6 Ranger so completely liveable. I want to extend the warranty to 6yrs (wife only does 10k a year) and then we will keep the Ecosport for a long time even after I pay it off... Something I would be too scared to do with the Pug.

Any pro or con feedback on this vehicle?

Your wife is 30 months old? Is that legal? The driving and the wife bit...

Yeah, that carbuyer review was eina. Australian and South African journo's love the Ecosport but in the UK it is a dud.

This is the exact model you are considering

So her only gripe was sluggish performance. The full 88kw here at the coast should not have that problem.

Think I will get the finance ball rolling on Monday. Need to hand over the 208 by Thursday in order to get out of it with the minimal pay-in.

I don't own one but a friend has the Titanium, and she loves it. As a passenger, it's smooth as silk and the comfort/features are great.

Obviously the cheapest model doesn't have mags (has steel wheels with hubcaps) and it's 15" size. While the more expensive models have mags and are 16" wheels. The PCD of the 4 stud wheelhubs is 108 (same as Figo and Ikon for example), so mags might not be as easily available perhaps in the style you want compared to the 100 pcd cars. But other than that I think its a great car and I would buy one if I could afford it. And remember, its front wheel drive, now all wheel drive or anything.

Get rid of the pug while you can, the ecosport will hold a lot more resale value and will probably be a nicer drive.
Just do it, dooooo eeeeeeeeeet!

Really saddened with how bad resale value is on the Peugeot. It is really a great little car. I bought the first one in the country (managed to register a week before official launch) and got it at a great price but being offered R50k below book is a shocker. My wife will drive the Ecosport exclusively and here in Slummies highway travel is very limited so gearing is not an issue. Fuel is a company benefit so no issue there either if it drinks more than her 1.2 Pug currently does. Re power - my T6 3.2 ranger satisfies that craving :-)

Thanks for the mag tip but I doubt I would ever put mags on - the standard steel wheel covers don't actually look bad from 10+ metres away.

Dealer has a white one arriving next week - just need to get finance sorted. I have a 7 car track record with Wesbank but this will be my first ABSA deal so might be a bit of back and forward fighting WRT interest rate.

Heads up Ford Ecosport owners. Another recall. Yes, it seems that the QC isn't that great in India. Due to the Rear Twist Beam pivot bolt not tightened to specifications, may cause the pivot bolt to break. I suspect it is a quick 1/2 hour job.

Still love the little car though. Mine has taken a beating and a half in loading it and driving it around in less than ideal roads.

Thanks for the heads up. My wife's one has its first annual service in January and will query this campaign with them then.

Great little car these. I intend settling ABSA (bought as part of the R18k off Ford Credit deal) next year and driving it for at least 6yrs as she only does 10k a year.

Yet so many ppl say the EcoSport is the better buy over the B-Max compact MPV...I disagree.

I think the B-Max is smart with its pillar-less design & sliding doors...

One is made in India & one made somewhere in Europe. (you guys can Google exactly where)

I was looking at the ecosport, and even the base model to me didn't seem like a whole lot of car for the money. And to get the mod cons I want, the price is just stupid. I looked elsewhere.

That B Max is priced higher and those rear doors are bound to give trouble. They even have a sticker on the lower sliding bracket saying don't step on this. Tell that to kids!

The Ambiente we own only lacks bluetooth and steering wheel controls. 6 airbags is 4 more than a Fiesta.

I take it she doesnt have to sit in the Gonubie traffic then!
The mileage and wear and tear on your car from that is crazy.
I waited until I moved out of Gonubie before replacing my car because of it.
