Ford has been testing the facelifted Ecosport ahead of its international reveal in November 2016.

The Ford Ecosport has been a topseller in South Africa due to its keen pricing, good looks and compact SUV proportions that seem to be all the rage at the moment. The mid-life facelift is now due and Ford has been adding the finishing touches to its design.

The test mules in the pictures above are heavily camouflaged in the areas that the new bits will be fitted to. There’s likely to be a new front bumper, as well as updated headlight and foglight designs. At the rear, the spare wheel is still mounted on the tailgate although it’s not certain whether the production model will still have the spare mounted outside the car.

The inside too will get a reasonable update, mostly consisting of updated technology. Ford Sync2 looks most likely to be fitted (as it is in the current Fusion, Ranger and Everest). The interior will also get new switchgear to neaten up the cabin’s appearance.

The engine range is unlikely to change with Ford retaining the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor, the 1.0-litre turbopetrol and the 1.5-litre turbodiesel.

The facelifted Ecosport should make its global debut at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in November this year. The model will only officially go on sale in 2017 however.

Thanks for the share. Sent to my wife and ended with "not going to happen"

I settled hers in January this year after only 11 debit orders (Stuck it to Ford Credit) and have zero intention of replacing it as it only does 10 000km per annum and I can extend the 4 year warranty by another 2 years for less then R10k before the current warranty ends.

Great second car!

Coolio. Glad to hear. What spec & engine option does she have?

1.5 Ambiente. Got it via the Ford Credit R189 900 deal and saved R23k.

Now that same model is R234k. I have looked at used sites and I could sell our one, with 14k on the clock, for exactly what I paid for it but of course would never let it go!

FYI - the 1.5 petrol REALLY loosened up at around the 12k mark and goes well but must be revved as it is a little gutless below 3500rpm

Aha that's some fairly impressive resale there (blame demand + noticeable increase of vehicle price for late 2015 & 2016)

Yip - the Ambiente has the highest resale value (or least depreciation from new) and as you say regarding ballooning vehicle pricing, people would far rather save R50k and buy a year old one than new

Cool.

Will be buying my Ambiente in 2018 (new or used will still have to be seen)

You should PM when you are ready in case I have a reason to change, as unlikely as that is right now. 10 000km a year, in a garage 18hrs a day and washed weekly ;)

Regarding the spare wheel mounted to the boot - while it makes the boot heavy, I really feel a lot of character would be lost if they moved the spare wheel into the boot floor like they intend doing for Europe.

True, and would have to be semi under the rear seat somehow. But then again I've seen pic of one without a rear wheel, doesn't look that bad...

Surely moving the spare inside will result in losing the small amount of boot space there already is?

I've climbed underneath mine to look - there is only enough space for a space saver. The rear axle beam is too close to the current boot bottom to allow for a full sized spare and taking away boot space would be a no-no IMO. I took a photo once. Let me see if I can find it...

EDIT: A is where the current jack and wheel spanner compartment is - there really is not enough space down there for a full sized spare. ECOSPORT UNDERNEATH.jpg

Tyres: 20cm wide

Bottom of body to top of rear axle: 25cm

They would just need to move the jack and stuff somewhere else.

50mm is not enough travel space for the rear axle IMO

Well, we'll see what the facelift comes out with.
