Ford Ecosport feedback please

I have been looking into the compact suv market for about two months. The entry level ecosport 1.5 gets poor power ratings across the internet.I have test driven it,its not too bad.I currently have an old opel 1.4 corsa bakkie which is only 66kw so i guess driving an 85kw vehicle would impress me.The ecosport is fairly heavy at about 1250kg so its a heavy body for a smallish engine.
The Renault Duster 1.5 diesel drives nicely and has good power, however im no renault fan and the inside looks like the china mall.
Pity theres not much else in the R200k - R230k price range.

I took ours for a 100km out of town drive on the weekend along with my Father In Law in his new one. In mine was myself, my wife and 2 kids. Reving the cobwebs, it flew up hills and overtaking. 160kph reached easily. No complaints from me, even considering my 147kw Ranger daily drive....

Are you referring to the 1.5 ambiente here?

Would be nice if they added a more powerful non turbo petrol to this vehicle

Nothing exists. It's all blown and downsized these days. All Kuga and all Fiesta, bar the Ambiente, get turbo engines.

I don't see the appeal in the cheap (relatively) small crossovers, except maybe the ground clearance. How many people really need that clearance though? Hatches in that price range look better, imo. You guys that have small crossovers, is the leg room and boot bigger in them than a hatch in the same price range?

And that's why I want the Ambiente, no turbo.

Yip, that is why I chose it too as I intend keeping for 6-8yrs

Why Larry....the 1L EcoBoost has proven itself well ito reliability.

Multiple Engine of the year winner, yes. But, I have it on good authority from a fleet manager who runs several Ecosport's, that his 1.5's are over 100 000km's while 2 of his 1.0T's had engine changes before 80 000km.

Could be isolated, but I choose good old fashioned "un-stressed" engine for reliability.

Rear seatbacks can recline for when the kids are sleeping, or come back up to regain boot space. The boot is bigger because the inside panel of the rear hatch door is sculpted into the door. Basically this allows you to close the boot with goods that appear to be sticking out of the boot. Also, the Ecosport gets 6 airbags while the equivalent spec Fiesta only has 2.

My wife wanted raised body height to be higher in traffic, hence us going the crossover/SUV route. Also, in my books, the front of the Ecosport is still one of the best looking in its class.

If you plan on keeping for 5yrs+ then I agree the unstressed N/A 1.5 would be best. Slightly OT...top model price is getting hectic...
