The concern is : should the vehicle immediately be sold to the dealership where it is standing if possible or to ride the wave and see how it will affect future value ?

Engine replacement under warranty have not been confirmed yet in writing though - they are waiting for feedback from a " warranty " department but initially said it will be replaced.

Sigh....

A while back I posted a story I heard about a fleet manager who ran several Ecosports. The 1.5 petrol's went to 200 000km+ while the 1.0T's gave a lot of trouble. Seems it was true. I can't help thinking that the little 1 litre is over stressed.

Busy giving local dealer a chance to quote me on a 2019 Ecosport Ambiente 1.5 petrol. They're also going to give me a valuation on my 2015 Ambiente.

@supersunbird Are you ready to discuss my 2015'er if I decide to pull the trigger on a 2019? (42500km. Warranty and service plan till 4 Feb 2019. about 10k left on tyres. No accidents. Mint apart from a couple of bonnet stone chips which I had brush touched to protect the metal)

There is no such vehicle, unless it's a 2018 pre-facelift one being sold as that. A 2019 Ecosport Ambiente 1.5 will be a diesel, except if the aforementioned.

I'll have to pass on that, will need to keep driving my Figo a few more years.

The Ecosport was taken in to the dealership on 20 November 2017 , and was only received back , with a completely new engine , on 4 January 2018 - the dealership was absolutely pathetic , they never came back to us regarding anything and we had to contact them constantly without joy. Ford national was contacted as well.

The following morning after receiving the car the previous afternoon , on her way to work , the gears just disappeared , and the dealership came to pick the car up after we just left it there at roadside and me taking her to the dealership right then and us being livid. Furthermore they couldn't do the new registration stuff right either and we only found this out when trying to renew the disc. Then the car was taken for a compulsory service , although it basically had no kilometres on the new engine , where something else was found to not be correct probably due to them not doing the whole transplant properly.
By the way - they chuck all the car's parts in the car and boot while busy with this whole transplant , nuts and bolts lying wherever in whatever containers.

So a decision was made to let the car go. It was traded in at Honda on a brand new Honda HR- V in February 2018.

The Ford experience was dismal to say the least.

You seem to be out of the news cycle. Just this week Ford announced the release of a 3 cylinder 1.5 non turbo petrol Ambiente Ecosport!!

Not a word from the salesman. It's like they're not interested in selling a car to me.

I won't give them the joy of phoning to follow up. In a way, they've just made up my mind to keep driving the current one in our garage.

In other news, currently reading articles on keeping a car for 8 to 10 years or 200 000km and rather plowing the money saved into the house bond...

My "like" was not for the incorrect info but purely for the "drive what you currently have approach”. New car is nice but not essential. Funds can be utilized more efficiently elsewhere.

Here's a weird thing, the facelift Ambiente does not have front fog lights according too all spec sheets I have checked, but the media and Ford website pics all show as if it has front fog lights, so does it have them only cosmetically? Wonder what is left out, and thus what's needed to make them work.

I actually raised this with the salesperson. The Ambiente has fake front fogs with reflectors built in.

Anyone own an Ecosport? We test drove the diesel which will obviously have more power than the 1.5 petrol in the Ambiente but we really loved the vehicle. Interior is hard plastic but no worse than my T6 Ranger so completely liveable. I want to extend the warranty to 6yrs (wife only does 10k a year) and then we will keep the Ecosport for a long time even after I pay it off... Something I would be too scared to do with the Pug.

Any pro or con feedback on this vehicle?

So it has been 4 years, successfully paid off the car in just over a year and it still looks as shiny and new as the day we took delivery of it in Feb 2015. Mileage sitting on 43000km and 4th, and last, annual service completed and covered by the original service plan.

While I did get a trade in figure and quote on a 2019 Ecosport, after running the numbers, my "wealth/worth" would take a knock of at least R130 000 with installments and depreciation of a new vehicle over the next 3 years. I then ran numbers on the current car: adding up the next 3 services out of pocket (including an eina R8-10k cambelt change service next year), a set of tyres in the next few months and an extended warranty, I will only be in for R30k over the next 3 years which is a massive saving of money.

So, we're keeping it and today I paid for the official Ford Protect Premium Care extended warranty which gives the car a full 3yr warranty extension until 2022 or 140 000km (mileage it will never get to at 10 000km per annum). The warranty cost just under R9k which I think is an absolute bargain for 3yrs of full cover on over 1000 components.

I've promised SO that we'll look at a higher specc'ed replacement vehicle for her in 2021 so that we can sell the current Ecosport with warranty remaining to achieve maximum resale value. Considering I was offered R140k trade in now (could get R10-R15k more privately), a very good used car dealer told me it will only drop another R20k over the next 2 to 3 years. That will mean, from paying R190k in 2015, I will have lost (depreciation) less than R70k in 6-7years of city/town use. Remarkable!
