Ford Focus clutch broken

I was phoned at 11.43am and was told my car is ready for collection.
I asked for a driver to fetch me, since I dont have a car.
Its now 14:10 and they have yet to get back to me.

And i thought VW are the only w@nkers, looks like they fighting for the prize.
 
Your clutch is hydraulic assisted. This makes it lighter to operate than the old cable system. You have 2 cylinders a master and a slave, the master is closest to the clutch pedal and the slave is at the gearbox. When you press the clutch the master cylinder pushes fluid to the slave pushing out a pin which operates the clutch.

Last night she decided she wants a Focus ST. Now who am I to say no .... I like them also :D

They seem to be very reliable for Turbo charged cars, or are they ?

I haven't had any real issues with mine, only issues I had was due to me going around a bend and greeting a pole... lol

People are always gonna say stuff like... it's 2.5L engine with a turbo and fuel consumption, blah blah blah... at the end of the day if you drive like a normal person fuel consumption is average, it's overall a nice drive, fairly comfortable, nice low down torque for easy over taking or easy cruising and the back seats have a lot of room considering the size of the car.

The "new" Focus ST is very nice as well, got it's iPod integration section just below the arm rest, rear view mirror auto dimming, voice controlled interior, keyless starting (start by means of a start button), improved interior detail such as some neat stitching... there is a whole bunch of stuff, but I'm not selling the car, at end of the day, I love driving it and doing say 100 on the highway in 5th or 6th gear and stepping on the accelerator gives you a smile on your face with the combo of sound and torque from the lovely and smooth 5 cylinder motor.

Anyone know what the scientific cost/benefits are between 4 cylinder ala GTI or MPS vs 5 cylinder ST?
What would the engineers have considered when choosing? Just interested?

seems fords clutches are lemons.. two friends with brand new fiestas have had to have clutch replacements within like 10000km of new.

the 5 cylinder is gonna give you more torque, :) nah its just the golf GTi is a 2l so it has 500cc's per cylinder, while the ST is 2.5L so still 500cc's per cylinder.

but will end up in more torque and power if used correctly..
 
5 cylinder motors do rev smoother than 4 cylinder engines, and it's a fact for the following reasons:

A 4 cylinder engine fires each all it's cylinders each 720 degrees (on the crankshaft) and taking into consideration that there is 4 cylinders it means that every 180 degrees power is applied through combustion. So at the end of of each power stroke another is applied so there is no interruption in power delivery.

In a 5 cylinder engine it also takes 720 degrees to fire all 5 cylinder which results in power being applied each 144 degrees on the crankshaft. This results in power being overlapped between the combustion in each of the cylinders and thus results in smoother acceleration.

Ford did consider using a 2L 4 cylinder engine, but to make the car competitive with regards to pricing, which it is, the 2.5L 5 cylinder engine was the cheaper choice who would result in the consumer grabbing the benefit of it in the end.

unfortunately, for every ST on the road, theres 3 GTi's . That strategy didnt work too well.

There is a few reasons for this... The GTi was already sold in 2005 in SA where the ST only started selling Q2 2006.

The GTi has got a heritage so more people know about the GTi than people know about ST's hence people will buy GTi because they are uninformed consumers... go talk to women (even a lot of men) especially, how many know of the various cars in the same class?

I believe if the GTi was out a year before the ST and if consumers were more informed about other hot hatches in the same class, then there wouldn't be so many GTi's on the road but a better balance of the various models...

Plus go look in the UK... for every GTi there is about 3 ST's ;)

i highly disagree, but no need to debate about this :)

I do visit UK alot, Leicester especially, didnt notice too many of either of them. But when i go again, iwill take note and survey :p

Hahaha shame. have a look at 2007 sales of the GTi and then the ST, name your year GTi sells more. 3 STs for every GTi? UK? I doubt that... Can Chavs afford STs? Im sure theyd all love STs!!:p
I think theres more STs in Durban. But they a different breed hehehehe!

GTI only has 2 legends, Golf 1 GTI and the Jumbo, the heritage stays there. I'll be buying a ST ;)

However, that doesn't translate into smoothness. For an engine to be smooth, it needs to have pistons moving in the same direction at the same distances from and on opposite sides of the centre of the longitudinal axis of the engine. Because of that, you'll need an even number of cylinders, and more than 4. So straight-sixes are known for being exremely smooth, also straight-eights, V12s, and V16s. Straight fours are not smooth because of their strokes, but they're smoother than fives, because fives *cannot* have an even number of cylinders on each side of the longitudinal axis. Fours and fives usually have balance shafts to help with smoothness. V6 and V8 engines typically have lateral oscillation as well as a bit of longitudinal.

Dampening technology has improved vastly in the last few years though, with better balancing and very effective engine mounts.

You have misread what I was saying... because of the overlapping power strokes, your engine will rev smoother regardless of the balance of the engine because of there is less interruption between power strokes.
