Hi folks

We are thinking of introducing ‘forum sponsors’ to increase revenue as an avenue to improve content (possibly get a part time journalist) and provide our members with more services (add one or two sections, more prizes, more frequent podcasts etc.). We are really struggling to do all the work ourselves and can often not get to everything during the day...the additional revenue can assist to spread the load. This advertising will be very discrete (image attached) and will obviously not impact on anything that happens or is discussed on the forum.

Your feedback will be great and will as usual guide our decisions.

Regards,

RPM

Looks good. Not intrusive at all and well worth it if it helps take some of the workload off.

rpm, I support 100%. With the news that MyADSL is the second-fastest growing website in the country after Google, I think it would be silly not to tap into the economics behind this. You and Cara must be killing yourselves with work, and I absolutely think you need to spread it out more. MyADSL is evolving and growing, and either we must adapt or die. Lets adapt. (Though I draw the line at allowing Telkom to advertise on MyADSL. ;) )

Besides I have always happened to enjoy the advertising on the site. It's relevent and in it's own little way it's a little piece of information.

I dunno hey. If it came hand in hand with penalty based SLAs on telecoms delivery and so forth I'd think it was worth the price.

Go for it RPM, the site is only going to grow larger and you and Cara can't be expected to single-handedly bear the workload, not to mention the financial burden of keeping the site local. Hope it takes some pressure off you guys.

I'm sure the benefits of some selective and discrete sponsorship would not have a negative impact on the forum.

Although I'm not a regular visitor, I would suggest not allowing any flashing adverts. The flashing ones only drive me away from sites.

We don't allow flashing ad banners on the site at all. I also hate it, find it distracting when I'm trying to read.

Heck forget SLA's, if they start advertising an uncapped ADSL special (and that's not just local) for all MyADSL members for R200 a month I may be able to find a slot for them :D

But on principle I would prefer to not see Cable Jack rubbing my nose in it on the site

er...wot WA banner??? :p

I use adblock and see no banners. Im willing to turn adblock off for this site tho. Reason I ask is that most people visiting this site seem to be rather PC literate and use tools like adblock/plus. Any advertising on the site therfore is wasted on them.

You're forgetting the number of hits this site takes on the news articles - probably many many from people who do not participate in the forums.

Updated browser usage stats could come in handy here rpm... but before I say more...about how or why I will stop speaking because I'm bound to start a flame war on the topic of 'most tech-savvy browsers' :D

I see only long time members posting on this thread (except Bwana v.21 of course:D ).

Being relatively new here, and having found a "home" on the web, I must say that I have never found the ads here intrusive or the slightest bit irritating, unlike other sites. In fact, for some one like myself, these ads have very often proved enlightening because it appears only ads relevant to the forum are accepted.

I have put this down to RMP and his army of assistants, ensuring a quality forum and filtering out the crp.

I see no reason to stop trusting that messers RPM & partners will continue to only do that which is in the forums best interests.

It is a good idea as long as the advertisers who are in the same broadband space realize that they may be mocked and attacked on this forum :).

I don't see any problem with that kind of advertising at all.... I think most people on this forum would be happy to see you make a decent revenue off this site...

Second only to google... Do you have the same financial clout yet :D

Anyway another option with I don't think is intrusive is a small discrete ad placed after the first post in a thread. It will give the advertisers more hits and shouldn't annoy anyone....

Something like on my wife's site (http://www.mommies.co.za/chat/forum_posts.asp?TID=26)
