Forum Sponsors

They are noticeable, but not irritating at all.

Question: Is there a summary page of all active advertsers/sponsors? It is a schlepp to reload until the ad needed is shown again.

Hi Kaspaas

Thanks for the feedback.

Many members have asked for a page like this and it is part of the redesign: should be available within the next four weeks.

Regards,

RPM

I have no problem with such ads! Like many have said before, they aren't in the way or an irritation. As long as you guys don't add the ads that show up after each 3 or 5 posts I'm happy!

Hi Bullfrog

Thanks for the feedback.

One of the main criteria for all advertising on the site is that it must be non-intrusive. I wish we could run MyADSL without ads, but it is simply not possible :( I also think it can be of value to generate some revenue from advertising if it means that we can bring a better service to members…

Regards,

RPM

The new Ads are non-intrusive.

This is a nice place to come.

I think this is a great idea - its noticeable but not obtrusive... big thanks to the sponsors for giving back to the community.

rpm, u should only allow businesses that participate on the forums to advertise on the forums, in that way if telkom participates then they can advertise,
so theres no discrimination.

ppl might start calling myadsl biased if it refuses advertising from certain vendors, and therefore we lose credibility.

I have been doing a bit of forum catch-up reading, and I only noticed that the adverts inside the forum has been done after reading this thread, and only after page 3. I agree that ads need to be unobtrusive, but ads need to pull the attention of forumites to be effective. Maybe obtrusiveness * 1.1? But please, no flashiness

I think Google Adwords have proved that obtrusive ads are not a good idea. They recommend blending the ads into your site just like RPM has done with his sponsors.

I do see them and remember them mostly... Lets see

Digital Planet, Axxxess (something like that) and WebAfrica are the ones which spring to mind....

The Ads are not bad. I use AdBlock but only for ads that flash or make use of sound; I allow all other advertising as this is how the sites pay their way.

Thanks for a great site and good luck.

How do we go about signing up as a sponsor? I have a few clients that would be very interested as most the people here are their target audience.

With regard to your placement and choice, you couldn't have done a better job. Something to bear in mind though, rather stay away from Adwords at this stage as your conversion won't be very good. The reason I say this is that there aren't enough companies involved in adwords yet to make to relevant to your content. You'll get ads promoting "Accommodation in Cape Town" which has nothing to do with internet etc.

Ah, silly question. It's an extension for Firefox called "Adblock Plus". It works very well. The ads just disappear when you click on them. Super duper :p Thanks!!

Go for it RPM, the site is only going to grow larger and you and Cara can't be expected to single-handedly bear the workload, not to mention the financial burden of keeping the site local. Hope it takes some pressure off you guys.
I do not know how RPM & Team keep this site running financially
and the active participation from the moderators, they certainly deserve a round of applause and if you guys even want a monthly subscription on a volunteer basis you can count on me,as your running costs must be high for the
>100 Gb of traffic to host here in SA compared to Internationally

We all need to make a living on what means we have. No Govt Treasury
to bail you out when you are having a tough month.

Thanks guys, for a great website where all the great minds meet
and discuss IT trends, news, beats going to any other site
on the web. Check here 1st as some sharp dude has picked up
the latest news.
Check Alexa for Traffic Rankings (excellent) on myadsl.co.za

Not sure I know how the Alexa (IA Archiver) crawler bot determines
web traffic rankings as they do not have access to your
website log files

Hi Kilos

Thanks for the kind words and the insight into what it takes to run a site like this. It would certainly not have been possible without the mods, other volunteers and the general support of the community. It is a true group effort and it is encouraging to see how the site has grown.

And BTW: closer to 240 GB per month now :D

Regards,

RPM
