Forum Upgrade

All I'm saying is that if people leave because of a theme change it doesn't say much about the content, does it?

MH's "gripe" was that the new theme was using a lot more bandwidth, not just the eye searing brightness ;)

Wow, what a shock when I logged in today! Maybe I'm getting old and resistant to change, but I would have liked a bit of warning, screenshots in advance, etc, so I could get used to it :) I'm sure I'll like it when I get used it.

Haven't really had time to see all the differences (although some things others have mentioned will bug me too - like unread threads not having bold titles). What I have noticed is that it's now terrible when using IE on Windows Mobile - please tell me we will be getting the nice, neat, clean, simple mobile site back?!

Forums are all about community and engagement. If everyone should leave it will then just be static content.

After reading this post (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?329876-vB-4-looks-ugly), I decided to plug in my LCD as I'm using CRT on this PC, and I can see where the wishy washy complaints are coming in. On the LCD I can see no border above the signature. How much higher must I tune my brightness? If MyBB is going with default colour scheme as they did previously I wonder if people will get used to it quickly.

Geez, but you some peeps can bitch and moan!
I can't believe there are those that are threatening to leave if the new look isn't changed. No one is forcing you to stay.

Sorry genetic not all of us are just shut up when we are affected, I personally think it cowardly not to speak your mind, can you imagine a world when people didn't complain when something wasn't right? Its would be ether quite boring or a crap place to live in. not everybody feels the same as you
anyway its the reason rpm made this thread, to see how the forum members feel

Okay... try and see it this way... what is the point of killer content if the actual action of reading it feels like it is killing your eyes.

You try and read your favourite magazine with searchlights shining right in your face... if you put it down and do not continue reading, does that mean the content sucks? Nope, thought not.

I will take a break from MyBB until the white has gone... I just CANNOT spend more than a few minutes here now.

It is not the content, but the contrast!

The white is a bit excessive atm.. but I'm gonna give it a few days before I start messing around with it to make it look better.

I must say I like the contrast in the top navigation bar. More of that on the rest of the theme.

So what did you expect then?

Bold means there's unread replies in a thread.

Let's do this in plain English as we seem to be on different wavelengths here!!

On the old forum, if I read a thread and no one else had commented in it since it was read by me it would appear in the "new posts" list in plain text and not bold. If someone had commented it would be bold.

You appeared to claim the new style does this too. My post appears to show not. If I have read a thread and in fact posted the last post then why would it appear in bold? I have read it. My comment is the last one.

The new style seems to only use the open and closed blue/grey envelope to indicate whether someone has responded since you last visited the thread.... not very noticeable.

Are we on different wavelengths?

rpm already said that there are a lot more changes in the works, and I assume some of them will be cosmetic so relax and give it a week. No need to all get in a tither. These things take time.

NOW we're on the same page so keep you panties on.

If you look at the list of threads in each subforum (e.g. Announcements, Off Topic etc.) then the bold thing works like before, if you've read all the posts then it's not bold, if there's new posts, the title is bolded.

Simple answer to your question is that it's a bug with vB4 that it doesn't remove the bold from the thread title if you've viewed all the posts in the "New Posts" section.

Just BTW, IIRC, merely posting the last post in a thread doesn't mean it should appear in bold. I remember that on vB3 if I posted the last post in a thread, it'd still show bold in some cases, because somewhere between "Page 1" and "Last Page" there were unread posts.

Also if you press the "new posts button" it only takes you to the last page where the new posts are and not the actual new post itself :(

Well there you go now, you see that was the simple answer that was needed. Instead everyone has been telling me it still works the same. Thank you! I do not browse sub-forums, I use the "new posts" button exclusively.

If you click on the actual time of the post, it takes you to the last unread post.

Apart from the "bold" bug, it does work the same. The vbulletin forum is littered with people complaining of bugs, it'll take time to iron them out. vB3 has been around for yonks and was rock stable, this version will need lots of tweaking before it gets there.
