Free ADSL data on weekends

This is certainly a great service - well done Cybersmart. I expect a fair amount of 'surfing' to happen over weekends :D

The 4meg 10-1 deal is brilliant. I could see that being alot more attractive to many people than the slow 384kbbps uncapped accounts.

the 4 and 512 deals suck man. Telkoms busy testing 8mbps-12mbps dsl and after they release there new speeds then 384 lines are gonna become obsolete. Then what?

I must say that this is close to free - but I suspect the guys will push so many GB that Cybersmart may actually get some money from them :D

Does that mean it's gonna be an extra R99 for the 4Mb Weekender as well?

Yup, as long as you have sub-broadband speeds (namely 384kbps) you're okay with Cybernet!

Screw that! Now I don't blame Cybernet, they're playing the card they've been dealt. But it is obviously indicative that this country is overly expensive, since Cybernet won't accommodate 4mbps users on the same conditions.

I was looking at Afrihost hosting solution and it costs the same for 2Gb traffic locally or 20Gb hosting on their international servers. Now Afrihost are known to be more than fair (R14.50 per Gb ADSL!), which means we're probably the most expensive country in the world to host in! At least 10x more than the USA...

Sad, but thanks to Telkom a reality. So this means less jobs for South Africa, thanks to the government sponsored parastatal Telkom because we cannot have hosting centres nor call centres.

Well done to the ANC government, you've butt-fscked the poor once again!

This is BS

Whats with all these deals, packages and now this "some sub package". Afrihost is doing it too, by reselling there unused bandwithd.

Just give us one account, one package and /or one rate. Just keep it simple.

Why do we have to struggle so much to get affordable internet.

I think the days of these complex marketing schemes are numbered. A lot of clued up MyBB users might take advantage, but for every 1 person I know that can understand and use this there are 50 I know wouldn't switch because its just too complicated for them.
I think that's why so many people (including many of my clients) stick with Afrihost.

I think the 384 option might be too little to go against the screamer's R399 uncapped all the time.

384:
Max over weekends: 8.9GB = 35GB @ R99
Comes to about R2.8 perGB for harcore downloaders.
I'd put that at about 11GB a month (using it when awake), or R9 per GB

512
3GB = R229. So 30GB @ R328
Comes to about R11 per GB

MAX:
47GB (3GB + 1GB +1 GB + R99) @ R416
Comes to about R8.8 per GB

4M
3GB = R259. So 30GB @ R358
Comes to about R12 per GB

MAX:
379GB (3GB * 12 + 1GB + 1GB + R99) @ R3405
Comes to about R8.9 per GB

Night rider is still the better option for budget conscience people.

its a nice step in the right direction but only really good value for those that download excessively... for the normal above average usage guy like me il stick to afrihost just because they brought competition into the market and their service is great;)

although this seems interesting..... not so sure if i want a adsl line again

seems good on the surface... but the current unlimited options out there look better.

What if Telkom raises the bottom end speeds as well when they do the 4-8/12Mb/s upgrades in a month or so?

Will the offer still continue?

ditto

Even though this looks pretty innovative, I won't use CyberSmart until they fix their terms and conditions. Any company that keeps such draconian terms in their T&C is not to be trusted.
