well it's ranked higher than AVG. :rolleyes:

to be honest, norton's probably a decent AV in the sense that it catches most viruses, just like AVG does. But it's pathetic because it hogs system resources and makes your system slow to a crawl, and it's near impossible to un-install properly so that your system is left with no negative side effects.
 
I've been using nortons for ages, stayed clear of that systemworks nonsense, antivirus always been good for me.

It's not decent, hogging a system should be classed as a virus, it beats AVG by hardly 1% :rolleyes: , AVG is free and doesn't hog the system like you mentioned

AOL Anti Virus Shield(ranked 2) is a cut down version of Kaspersky AV and is also free
 
What I find insane is that Google have included it in their Google Pack. They offer a 6 months free subscription. Yeah, I was dumbass and installed it! Works well though, but I find I get very few viruses coming through my firewallsssss. lol
 
There was a version of Norton, a recent one (with the internet security feature) which upon installing, turned off XP's default firewall.

If your Norton expired, or you had a pre-loaded demo version that came bundled with a laptop/pc, it would unactivate or if you removed it, it would LEAVE Windows XP's built in firewall DISABLED.

That's a very good example of why Norton is bad.

Norton used to be the cream of the crop, many years ago, but sadly in the last 4 years or so, they have gone downhill, very quickly.

The only thing they have selling their products is their previously good name and the fact that it still comes bundles with most new PC purchases.

I've been using AVG Free for about 2 years now, I've tried Avast, which is a good product, too.

AVG, in my experience, has picked up virii that a fully updated Norton AV has failed to detect, and AVG has remained cheaper, and if I recall, you get 2 years of updates, if you purcahse the full product.

Furthermore, AVG has discount prices for schools/NPOs.

Upgraded to 7.5 on Friday and everything's hunky-dory :D
 
choose the repair option when you install - no need to uninstall 7.1
 
Yes i had to unstallll old version first. It kept giving kuk after i had done the repair option to upgrade to 7.5 (it did say on avg web site to use the repair option when upgrading - so i did).

So i uninstalled old version and installed 7 and a half, and now its fine.
 
After reading through this thread I decided to uninstall Norton and give avg 7.5 a try. Norton was completely up to date and I did regular scans. Once avg 7.5 was installed and updated it ran a scan. Picked up 2 trojans!

So again my concerns about Norton were confirmed and AVG RULES!!!!

Ok, I also heard about Avast over the weekend. My Norton Internet Security comes up for renewal in about two months. Had it for 2 years and I have had enough.
 
I've always used free versions of anti virus software but recently I bought Nod32 and I must say it's excellent. Very small and it updates itself atleast once a day. Low on system resources also. <u>www.nod32.co.za</u>
 
I'll have to say that I dislike norton. I used to use then decided to give AVG a bash. A FULLY updated norton didnt pick up the 7(SEVEN) trojans on my computer that AVG found. (tbh 3 of those files were backups of the other infected files on my other hdd)
