Free Calls for Cell C Customers

Well that's a right F you to contract customers. I think all of them will go out and buy a prepaid starter kit and just use that for the weekend. Result, contract calls on the weekend will plummet.
 
Still Nothing on the CellC website that indicate anything of this. I need the Exact details. Like how many minutes will be "free".

Long time I've not gone to the cellc website looks more sexy than before...
Well if this is real... I'll get a couple of cellc sim cards and phone everyone in JHB :p but first I've to grow up a list of numbers..
 
Seems to be a maximum of 120 minutes per weekend, not 120 minutes per month:

Someone should tell CellC that a time of "24:00:00" on any day on this planet makes no sense...:rolleyes: I suspect it should read something like: '1) Free calls are limited to 120 minutes from Saturday at 00:00:00 to Sunday 23:59:59.' in which case it was deliberately misleading for CellC to even mention the word Friday at all.

Honestly, I don't think they will! Cell C have tried a few tactics before and to this day none of the other networks have followed.

Cell C has got the cheapest call rates of all networks and have you seen the others lowering their rates? No...
 
Interesting move by cellc.
I wonder how the big 2 will take this broadside at their customers.

Imho CellC has always tried to grow their market out of the low end market and this offer will really give voda and mtn's prepaid customers a good reason to migrate.

Plus the fact that you can port your number is quite nice.
 
My question is. How can this small mobile operater justify this, but the multi billion rand Telkom can't lower its fees????
 
This move kinda makes sense because the majority of cellc's calls terminate on other networks. The number of calls terminating on their own network is relatively small in comparison with vodacom and mtn who have far more subscribers. Giving away free calls could drastically improve their subscriber numbers. If the bigger networks were to copy this strategy it cost them significantly more because a bigger portion of their profits come from calls terminating on their own network.

I'm on CellC Prepaid and just got this SMS

Woza Weekend. Thanks for recharging. U now get free Cell C 2 Cell C calls this weekend. Recharge every week to qualify.

And I only recharged R10 this week....
 
From Cell C's site:"If you are a controlchat or valuechat subscriber, you qualify automatically".
Looks like a valuechat contract is then the way to go. No monthly subs (if you choose not to take itemised billing and CLI), so no free minutes to use up first.
 
Hello congestion...

Nice ... if you can get through during free call periods. Where networks have done this before the free communication channels were permanently soaked up by people using it for baby monitors, peer-to-peer networking, call centre diverts, music-on-the-go, number polling, etc.

I'm glad I'm not responsible for network quality in CellC.

Makes sense yeah. Cell C will gain more subscribers and in this way a greater percentage of calls originating on their network will also terminate on their network.

It probably was deliberate so that people assume it includes Friday and call then anyway.
