Hi Guys,

For those that haven't heard, there is a Diablo 3 starter pack available to download for free. It allows you to play until lvl 13 and reach the skeleton king or something in ACT 1.

Started my download last night, and now the game is downloading through the installer.

I have noticed that you can upgrade to the full version on Battle.net, but at a cost of 59.99 Euros. Yeah, thats about R606.

Has anyone tried upgrading to the full version by buying the game, as in hard copy, not digital? R600... rough. :wtf:

My friend started with a starter edition and upgraded to full using a hard copy without any problems.

If I recall correctly, I think it was Takealot or Kalahari.com that had the cheapest price, if you're willing to wait for the delivery. He wanted it immediately and bought it from Makro.

If you just bought the hard copy from square one you wouldn't be sitting with this problem:p

Yeah true, but I think the starter package is perfect in case I dislike D3, kinda sceptical since read about some of the disappointments, shortness of game etc. And most shops still ask +-R400! Will just have to try for myself, really enjoyed D2.

If you only play up until the skelly king, I'm almost certain you wouldn't hesitate to buy the full version, yeah the game is short (just like the original D2 it only has 4 acts) but with 4 difficulties and 5 classes you'll probably get more than a couple of hundred hours from the game (R600 for that amount of game time is a bargain IMO). Most people complaining about the shortness/lack of content of the game, are those that played 8-12 hours a day, for weeks on end, and one day found themselves burned out (this will happen with almost any game if you play too much)

But anyhow happy gaming, be sure to give some feedback if you liked it or not

Well in that case, I should be just fine, really just play on weekends, about 5,6 hours max!

How often do they release updates? And are they quite large?

A couple of hotfixes here and there, there's been 3 patches to date(I think), with patch 1.04 coming soon as well(buffing the **** out of legendary items YAY), if I took guess I'd say there's been about 20-40mb worth of patching, but I might be wrong, never really checked how big the patches were, but I never waited long for them to download, so nothing major...The first major patch will be patch 1.1 which will have Player versus Player, but that will most probably only be towards the end of the year.

If you only play on weekends this game will last you a long time, I'm close to 200 hours, spread over all 5 classes and I'm far from being bored

Thanks wikkels88. Started gooi-ing D3 last night, as the installer reached playable. Will rather wait for the download to reach optimal. Played about 3mins last night, skipped the intro cause it needed to buffer................... And entering any place, it downloads additional content.

Does it get resolved through the full download?

Yeah bud, unless you have a 10mb line, rather wait for the download to finish. I tried going in when it reached Optimal and still had a few issues... Once you're done installing, everything is pretty much seamless.

Worth it at all?

I've been wanting to ask:

Is it worth, as a South African, to get Diablo 3 at all? How dependent on good latency is the game? I don't want to experience the frustration in Diablo 3 that I have experienced with MMO's. That would really spoil the experience for me, especially since Diablo has always been a game that moves at a steady pace, so I'd guess might require good timing.

With a half decent line you're looking at the typical 120-200ms ping for a connection to Europe. Maybe I'm used to playing international dota games back in the day, but anything less than 200ms seems good to me.

I have a 230ms latency to D3 and its fine....once you reach 400 or above you will start having issues :)

My line at home usually remains steady at about 200 to 250. I haven't had any problems with D3 at that latency. When it's between 300 and 400, you can see the delay between clicking and activating, but it's still playable. Above 600 it becomes more difficuly to play.

A big thing is that the line should be steady. If your connection is spiky, then it becomes difficult to play because you can't predict when you need to click.

You can also try services like WTFast. I don't use it for WoW ir D3 since my connection is stable and the improvement is small for me, but I have seen it work on Aion, changing it from frustrating to decent. You can test WTFast with a free account, but it will disconnect you every 30 minutes.

People in EU complain when they have 200ms ping. If you're used to online gaming in SA you'll be fine though.

Ok just downloaded and tried this last night :) Quite impressed so far. I enjoyed hearing the very familiar bow "twang" sound as i approached the first town. That made it clear I was back in a diablo game for me.

Currently on lvl 8 with a wizard, some nice spells and effects and I love the small little achievements and challenges.

By the way how do you check your latency in game?

There will be a little green/yellow or red meter next to your arcane power globe, hover over it with you cursor and it will give your latency
