Free iBurst bandwidth after midnight

mine says :

We’ve also introduced:

*

Uncapped Anytime @ 64 kbps
If you choose a 1Gig package or upward, you can choose to pay an additional flat rate of R199 per month, and you’ll get unlimited internet access once your package data is finished, but at slightly slower speeds of up to 64kbps.

*

Uncapped Anytime @ 128 kbps
If you choose an 5Gig package or upward, you can choose to pay an additional flat rate of R249 per month, and you’ll get unlimited internet access once your package data is finished, at a speed of up to 128 kbps.

If you login, this is what i get;

Uncapped Anytime @ 64 kbps
If you choose a 5Gig package or upward, you can choose to pay an additional flat rate of R199 per month, and you’ll get unlimited internet access once your package data is finished, but at slightly slower speeds of up to 64kbps.

Uncapped Anytime @ 128 kbps
If you choose an 8Gig package or upward, you can choose to pay an additional flat rate of R249 per month, and you’ll get unlimited internet access once your package data is finished, at a speed of up to 128 kbps.

If you don't login, you get;

Uncapped Anytime @ 64 kbps

One other complaint we picked up was that the VAS is only available from the 5GB packages upwards. This has now been changed to be available from 1GB (Wireless-1) upwards.

You can therefore purchase a 1GB bundle and slap on the 64K or 128K-VAS, if you like.

"iBurst Broadband Simplified" Yeah, right...

Why can't they make things simple, firstly they said you could only have VAS on wireless 5 and up.
Then they changed their mind and said you can have VAS on Wiireless 1 and up.
But they forget to change that info on their website. Then they wonder why everyone gets confused.

Now it's the midnight service, just keep it simple don't confuse your clients.

I don't want a percentage saving, I want full 100% saving. Then I am back every morning counting my data usage making sure that only a percentage was removed/counted.

Then we wonder why the staff at iBurst don't know what we are talking about when we phone in...:p
+1 to keeping it simple.

The way I understood it, the midnight service doesn't actually cost iBurst anything, it is off-peak traffic that wasn't being used.

Surely subscribers would purchase more boosters, add a VAS or even increase their cap in order to take advantage of the midnight service?
Couldn't this, as well as attracting new subscribers, make the midnight service profitable?

Agreed, they are scared that everyone would download the whole interwebz.

They forget that the novelty would eventually wear off and only a certain amount of clients would continue to download like crazy.

It would be better for iBurst to advertise "Free internet data at midnight" and bring in more clients instead of losing more clients.

The 64kbps and 128kbps VAS doesn't work for everyone. We want full speeds during the day and night.

You'll notice that complaints of the 64kbps service being discontinued died down after the "midnight" service was introduced.

The "midnight" promotion was a great idea, but I guess all good things come to an end.

As I recall, it was agreed in an earlier post by r00igev@@r that Iburst pays for the pipe, and not for the data used. Therefore my understanding is that the after hours usage doesn't cost Iburst any extra.
For myself, I am definitely using more paid for bandwidth as a result of this promo than I used previously, so Iburst is getting more money out of me anyway.
I am not convinced that I want to convert from the "no commitment" package I am currently on, AND pay an additional R199 or more every month, in order to continue using the service.
I think Iburst can do better. Charge less for it, or even leave it for free - that way it keeps subscribers with Iburst instead of them leaving for other providers (who, incidentally, don't only "turn on the tap" at the ghastly hour of midnight....)

r00igev@@r, according to the call centre, the R199.00 v.a.s. can only be added to the 5gig and upwards packages... So we're back to the original problem.

p.s. And may I add Aaaargghhhhh....

My understanding:

Uncapped Anytime VAS is: 64Kb or 128Kb throttled speed once you hit your cap.

From next month added to the 64/128 "uncapped" option is that you go FULL speed, 100% 'free bandwidth' between 00:00 and 08:00. (Question is: Do you need cap left to go full speed?)

Added, for FREE to all packages are the following:
15GB - between 00:00 and 08:00 bandwidth usages only counts 20% (not sure on the %) towards your cap - eg. download 100MB, only 20MB will come off your cap and 80MB will fall under "after hours usage".

8GB - between 00:00 and 08:00 bandwidth usages only counts 40% (not sure on the %) towards your cap - eg. download 100MB, only 40MB will come off your cap and 60MB will fall under "after hours usage".

5GB - between 00:00 and 08:00 bandwidth usages only counts 60% (not sure on the %, but it's higher than the 8GB option) - eg. Download 100MB, 60MB goes to normal cap, 40MB goes to "after hours usage"

2GB - between 00:00 and 08:00 bandwidth usages only counts 80% (not sure on the %, but it's higher than the 8GB option) eg Dwo nload 100MB, 80MB goes to cap, 20MB goes to "after hours usage"

I believe this is the idea that iBurst is trying to get across.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Does the "free" VAS that previous contract holders get, also mean that they get "free" full speed after hours (no deductions from bundle)?

Thanks for proving my point:

Their site is not giving out any statics and I just lost my static ip.

Browsing is crawling.

The VAS was kept simple by integrating Midnight to Morning into the Uncapped Anytime and still maintaining the same price. We believe it is a good deal for those who want to download the world. [For only the price of a Kentucky bucket and a six pack of Castle, you protect your cap for daytime use]

We also realized some people don't want to buy the VAS so we have made free bandwidth available as a standard feature. If you only use Midnight to morning you can:
- on a Wireless 2 download an extra 2GB for free
- on a Wireless 5 download an extra 20GB for free
- on a Wireless 8 download an extra 56GB for free
- on a Wireless 15 you can go ape...

BTW: Your analysis is wrong, boosters purchases were down

"hey kid c'mere - come try this out ..you'll like it. It's cheap and anyhow, the first one's free" :D

I have to hand it to iBurst: in the face of uncapped ADSL and prices plummeting everywhere this is a brilliant retention strategy - and those "free" escalation numbers (1/5/7x your base expenditure) are just sublime.

Can you explain this more clearer, as an Wireless 5 customer I can download a total of 20GB at midnight for a month, without it coming off my remaining data, please tell me this is so?

Wrong, if you so chose to only log on only between the hours of midnight and morning you would be able to download a total of 25GB. However, we would like you to surf during the day too, please (at the normal rate).

And if you blow your cap and are on Wireless 5 and you buy a 1GB booster you can download 5GB Morning to Midnight (a free 4GB) That works out at a price of R11.80 a gig.

And that's not all...

So, buying a 1gig booster gets you an M2M booster to the tune of the bundle you're already on, id est:
  • Wireless 2 gets another 2gig
  • Wireless 5 gets another 5gig
  • Wireless 8 gets another 8gig (should they need it after having burned their way through the 56 they get already?)
And that's not all...
do tell... :p
