Free MXit data on BlackBerry

Free? Nothing in South Africa is free...

how can they state its free when you pay R60 odd for the BIS service......this is a HUGE advertising problem in south africa

Well technically, you get unlimited email and unlimited internet browsing for R59, Facebook and Mxit is free.:)

Um, how many teenagers own blackberries? Talk about offering something for nothing to nobody.

still............paying for a service and saying your getting it "free" is a contradiction

Well before today you were paying R59 for the old BIS stuff, now you have Mxit... so its free right?

Um, how many teenagers own blackberries? Talk about offering something for nothing to nobody.

Lots and lots! And more to come! All kids want these days is internet, MXit, Facebook and email...

Mxit was born out of the prevailing expensive bandwidth in South Africa.

Here was the option of sending messages for literally a couple of cents or Moola in Mxit speak.

Comparing that with SMS charges it was adopted by the masses because of ecomomics.

Now if bandwidth costs were to be reduced or you get way more bandwidth for your money then other Instant Messaging will become far more prevalent in SA.

Since Blackberry traffic prioritisation is set to _conversational_ it makes sense to add in the Mxit client as this hardly uses bandwidth at all.

Blackberry on Vodacom is becoming a crippled service as is evident on the Blackberry Speed test threads and this is one more attempt to dupe more people to buy in to this.

Say NO to Blackberry 8520 on Vodacom Blackberry Internet Services, or join the many forumites bewailing their fate after falling into the Contract trap.

Blackberry is available on prepaid as well. I think ons of the reasons for the more affordable Blackberry 8520 may be to push their prepaid base.

At R 59 per month for unlimited access I think it is a very fair deal. I have not checked yet, but I think it compares favourably with international offerings.

I've added about ten friends to my BB IM list in the last month thanks to the 8520 deal.

Sure it's not "free" cus of the R59pm charge (still a good deal, I was using over 150MB per month on my device before I got a BB), and the BIS services are a wee slow; but Blackberry is the way to go.

Vodacom cant support blackberrys on BIS anyway... Now more people wont b able to connect to mxit or get there email pushed during work hours...

rpm, the cost is not an issue, the service itself is almost unusable from VC.

Do a quick check on the VC BB Speed test thread and compare with the MTN BB Speed test threads.

I cannot endorse poor service, which is why I, "Say NO to Blackberry 8520 on Vodacom Blackberry Internet Service"

Right now my BB 8520 Speed test says:

Oct 12 20:23:30

Here are the Speedtest results for my Blackberry:

Connection Type: Carrier
Avg. Download Speed: 9.64Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 37.85Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 6.58Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 42.84Kbits/s

I have no dispute with the cost, just the poor service levels

“The new version of MXit is part of the BlackBerry app store,” explains MXit Technical Director Marnus Freeman.

BALLS considering Blackberry App World isn't available in S.A yet !

And my BIS Expenirece with Vodacom hasn't been the best. I hardly even get a decent signal...

Correct!

You'd be suprised. Quite a few of my mates love their Storms, and others are seeing the appeal in the Curve 8900. Most of them seem to have wanted a BlackBerry because it makes social networking that much more mobile and accessible.

Does make it a bit pointless doesn't it? I was trying to get App World to install last night.

I found when I downloaded MXit V5.9 for BlackBerry (pretty much straight after its release) that it was FILLED with bugs. Froze my phone to the point where I had to remove the battery - I've NEVER had that problem with my BB before. (Seriously, NEVER.)

Use v5.8.2 yeh same problem happened to me when I was using nimbuzz too. I hope mxit gets its act together soon and stops giving us halfed baked krap... I hope the next version for blackberry supports the facebook gateway.
