I can see the high site, and my closest node is Vinaduro.
I'm on the Jawug kml file (although i see it is slightly randomized).

I should be setting up a node in january/february. Just gonna get some extra cash, you can help with that ;) :P

But once i have all the cash, maybe you should come over and help me set it all up.

What range would i be able to cover if i let other ppl connect to me?

I've been trying to get more info on the Cape Town network, but their website is not working...

I would really like to join one of these, any idea's where to start, I live near Tygervalley mall..

The WUG is reaaaallllyyyy awesome! The people on IRc are always helpful.

I've had a problem with my site once, something to do with the network cable going to my PC. One of the members, Bashtux, drove about 30kms to my house, did a few tests and helped me to fix it. This was around 9pm.

So even if you are like me, not always very clued-up, there are always people willing to help.

PS. Before buying equipment, go onto IRC, chat to one of the technical guys and tell them about your scenario and they will be able to tell you what type of equipment you need and even organize a LOS test.

Best is to get test equipment (and someone in your area who can test with you) before splurting some dough...

Have not looked back since joining PTAWUG (yeah did cost me R2200 for equipment initially, but nothing since - well nothing but electricity and beer) ;)
 
You can do anything on the WUG, except if it is illegal (e.g. hacking) or to annoy other people. The WUG does not offer Internet service or access

I want to setup a high site at my place as soon as i get cash for equipment :) would help people in the lower down the hill.
 
don't know much about this.. but was wondering if someone could help me answer some questions before i jump on-board this network.

1. What does it offer? (Media sharing / Gaming / Internet)
1.1 Gaming: Where can i find out what gaming is being hosted on the network
1.2 Internet: details?

2. I stay in morningside, what do i require to join the network?
2.1 Financial input
2.2 Physical installation? Anyone out there who does call-outs to install this?

1. file sharing / gaming / No internet / Learning / Experimenting / Audio streaming / Friendship / voip / ip cams / linux repo's, Windows S.U.S etc etc etc - anything u can do on a lan!
1.1 Gaming: Cod4 / Cod5 / CSS / TF2 / Dota / Any game you like - host your own game server!
1.2 Internet: We are not legally allowed to offer Internet, actually, no commercial services at all.

2. Morningside is currently not covered, but perhaps you can see a distant site from home - we have some very long links!
2.1 Finances - around R1500 - R2000 ish....
2.2 Physical Installation - extremely easy, anyone can do it - but there are willing wuggers who may be able to assist.
