Free Office 2010 from Microsoft

OpenOffice - I personally don't like it.
Office 2007 - Can't live without it! Fast and the interface is AMAZINGLY way more efficient to work with once you're used to it.

No thanks, I'll stick to my openoffice. Smaller download and it's got the same features than office
An office suite doesn't consist entirely of a document editors, spreadsheet and presentation apps.

Try and look through the MS bashing and you'll see that Office is actually pretty good at what it does.

Pre paid office ????

Does anyone know what the uptake on prepaid ms office was in SA (the world)??

Yes MS are trying, but they should try reducing their prices (drasticaly), and they will sell licences like never before and really lock the other half of the world in, and retain current users, not alienating them!!

As for me Open Office........

So because SA is an emerging market MS must spend millions and give you a product for free... If you had a company would you give your products away for free because there is a credit crunch?

EDIT: I am sure, I was referencing a previous post  Must have been deleted

Do. Not. Want.

If it's like Office2007, then it'll be bloated and slow.

Hahahah. Sigh...

Office 2007 has been blazing fast and SP2 showed a nice speed increase on slower systems.

Ran a Beta/Tech Preview of Office 2010 a while back. Not bad at all. Can't wati for the final release. Gonna be expensive, but worth it.

Already purchased my Win 7 Pro edition! Awesome stuff!

There is good reason for a free version. It's called lock-in. My bet is that MS is trying to eliminate the .ODF standard.

Dude, where have you been the last 15 years? MS locked people in to Office years ago. It IS the de facto standard now. But nobody is forcing anyone to use it. There is still such a thing as free choice. If people are uneducated about the formats and standards whose fault is that? Let the Buyer beware. Besides there are enough converters on the market now to convert between all the formats. I have never had a problem yet.

Do Want...

REALLY want Gemini, and I need Office 2010 for that.....

I bet the EU will slap them with an anti-trust fine for this. Pre-loading, that is.

That's the first thing that jumped to my mind when I read the article. But most likely they'll just exclude the free version from the European market.

Is there anything that one really needs that old Office 97 does not do? Do you really need the bells and whistles ?

I've updated my Office 2000 with the Compatibility Pack for Office 2007, so I can open the newer "X" formats. For the standard user all that changes is pretty much the look. Hell, Office 2007 can't even do some of the things that Office 2000 does eg. in a spreadsheet/document mail merge the currency from the spreadsheet doesn't carry into the template document.

All things said and done, I hate the layout in Office 2007.

  1. Use Office 2007 at home and I have really battled to meaningfully customise it for my needs. It looks polished and glossy but I am not 100% convinced it does the job as well as 2003.
  2. Use Office 2003 in office. Fully customised with all the formating tools to make the use quick and easy. It does everything I want and more, and I am truly happy using it.

Im really enjoying the beta so far. Think its an improvement over 2007.

Out of interest what does 2010 have that's up on 2007? Have you manage to get used to the changes introduced?

Hey no matter what you say your mother still uses MS hahahah lol
now she can use it for free while lolly jackson runs some half naked women across her tool bar...

I LOVE evolution!

Is some of you people missing the FREE part of this entire article? Everyone complains about how expensive Office is, and here MS is handing it out for free and everyone ignores it completely? Huh?
