Free Office 2010 from Microsoft

MS are chasing away small business users with their Office pricing. We have 7 licenses (2007) and the upgrade will be just too expensive. We have been evaluating openoffice on a workstation. Just a pity there is nothing quite like Outlook/Exchange; similar but not as complete.

Uhm, I already use a free Office suite, and it doesn't have ads, pray tell why on earth I would want this?.

Have a look at evolution.

Geez people, it's free..., who cares if it's bloated or got microsoft branding all over it, it's still free.

At the end of the day, i still prefer MS Office over Openoffice.

Well done MS, at least you are trying to be a bit more innovative and accommodating! That is a good sign.

We have just migrated our Exchange to Google Apps Premium, does everything Exchange can do and a whole lot more!

"The product is to come pre-loaded on new PCs."

Sorry to be a pain but this is assuming that your new PC comes with MS Windows. What if I buy my PC without an OS or with another OS, as I do. MS's market share is going down and so should the assumptions.

Feel free to ignore me, just feeling grumpy on a Friday afternoon :P

Tell me somethin'? What sorta applications come bundled in this so called Free (as in beer free)--Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc??

There is good reason for a free version. It's called lock-in. My bet is that MS is trying to eliminate the .ODF standard.

I would imagine Word and Excel only. In Vista they already give you Mail which handles home user email perfectly so they would not give you Outlook which is more aimed as business type use. PowerPoint and Access too are business orientated so I doubt it, the only thing PowerPoint is useful for the home user is to view annoying forwarded emails.
