Free Telkom ADSL speed upgrades

Step in the right direction by Telkom, they must back this by upgrading their network quickly to cater for the new load.
 
Hopefully they can make the lines more stable and reduce noise because the length of the local loop has been decreased.

According to my router, it syncs at the correct speeds, but my downloads rarely go past 1.7 Mbps. At 4Mbps, I expect to get around 3.5 Mbps.
 
Thanks Telkom , it`s not going to help me much though. In fact , things are going to become a lot worse for me. This means the amount of data used will increase dramatically on our already badly congested exchange.

I'm quite stoked, I was planning to downgrade to a 2mb line, so now I can just stay with a 4mb line, get some good cash off. Nice.
 
Why does everyone assume that just because someone now has a faster line they will use more data?

Very very few people download 24/7 and most of them should be dragged outside and shot anyway as they only do it because they can or want to prove something, not sure what though.

I use between 150-200GB a month on my 10Mb line, this won't suddenly change if my line gets upped to 20Mb, it just means I'll spend less time using my line.
 
If my dslam gets bumped up to 10mb then awesome...

Or I will save R100. Either way. Win Win.

I dont know about other ISP's but Afrihost definately will, they are the most non greedy company i have ever dealt with

I was on a 1mb uncapped and my ave consumption was 90-100gb per month. I recently upgraded to 2mb uncapped and my ave will stay at 90-100gb.
As you say, I now spend less time doing the same thing. A win for me.

Edit: Just, I can downgrade later and save some cash now. Win win
 
Owing to a planned network freeze over the December 2013/January 2014 period the upgrade process will be paused and will resume thereafter.

I think what will happen is that your DATA will remain on 2mb and the line will just start syncing at a higher rate. So you will have the choice of paying in say R100 more and getting 4mb data to match the 4mb line or you can save a R100 by downgrading the 4mb line to a 2mb.

I doubt they will simply bump up your data package.
 
I think it's pretty cool ... I took that 25% discount that they had, so my 2mbps is R550.00 in total or something.

So 4mbps at R550.00 is perfect for me

BTW : How do I check if I support 10mbps ?
