So I just stumbled across an ad on Facebook leading me to a page called "Free the Web" with this as the description:

For too long now, we've been hearing about how bandwidth costs in South Africa are going to be dropping. Friends in Europe and the US go on and on about how they can download anything they want without having to worry about data usage.

The purpose of this page is to highlight the effect of high bandwidth costs on ordinary South African small and medium business owners as well as the man on the street.

Something big is on the horizon… the time for change has come.

It's time to Free the Web! Be part of this movement for change!

Hi Everyone, Thanks for joining Free The Web SA! We started this group because we are tired of the limitations of the web in South Africa. It's time we have cheaper broadband without limits. Let's free the web and make it affordable to all South Africans. We have a plan and in a short time will be able to reveal it to you. Please tell you friends to join us. With enough support, a better internet is on the way. (6 hours ago)

I wonder what it is? :P

1. Talk big to accumulate a lot of followers.
2. ???
3. Profit!!!

you know , actually it's gonna take a lot more to convince me to join bookface. right now i'm thinking ZA Portal v0.02 ;)

lol at some of the comments -

Ivy Bedworth I agree cheaper broadband and uncapped. And yes, stop the monopoly of companies who don't provide internet downloads to Macs.

Gwen Jacobs protest!!!!!! if everyone stop using for one hour 2 hours everyday

don't worry nobody is going to take away you're trolling pool :P

Or yours for that matter, and its your, not you're (you are).

Are you maybe hurt by the fact that your thread was closed by a mod and rightly so?

Hi All

Thanks for finding us! We agree that this may seem like a lame marketing ploy.

We believe that what we're about to do is going to change the internet landscape in SA. How's that for a bold statement?

It's only lame if we don't deliver on the hype. And we will deliver.

The Free The Web SA team

I saw that ad on top of every mybb page yesterday. Saw it said facebook, resisted the facebook, and then this topic popped up.

So bold, but wait, I've heard this before...with the likes of DC.

How do you plan on executing this?

I guess their first plan of execution is to release their plan of execution ;)

I'm curious but just as skeptical.

Would be interested to know who is behind this, or are we dealing with newcomers here?

Anyone want to piss on their battery and register the following unregistered domains?

freetheweb.co.za and freethewebsa.co.za :p

Unless they've magically convinced ICASA to speed up LLU or convinced Telkom to drop the price of their 4Mbps ADSL line rental then I'm not interested.

Ooh, you are evol, lol

Defintely, unless they're going to replace ICASA, this is just a waste of our time.
