Free tickets will be distributed for the remaining group matches at the Confederations Cup to help fill the stadiums in South Africa, Fifa said on Wednesday.

Fifa media chief said Nicolas Maingot said a share of the tickets will be made available for free in an attempt by the world governing body to fill stadiums.

Fifa is in touch with charitable organisations and local authorities on the distribution of tickets.

One exception will be the match between world champions Italy and Brazil in Pretoria on Sunday, which is nearly sold out.

None of the four matches so far has been sold out, although the average gate of 33 170 is not much below the average of 37 694 at the 2005 tournament in Germany.

Egypt's Mohamed Al Muhamadi has meanwhile been suspended for one match after being sent off against Brazil for handling the ball on the line. He will miss Thursday's encounter with Italy in Johannesburg.

No decision has yet been taken on Ricardo Clark of the United States who was sent off against Italy for a foul on Gennaro Gattuso.

He faces a minimum one-match ban, and will definitely miss Thursday's encounter with Brazil in Pretoria. - Sapa-dpa

I got a R210 ticket for free today :) They were handing them out at school, so I wont say no. Seems they were desparate to fill the stadium, but I thought the attendance was pretty decent. Unless there were that many free tickets...

The free ticket negates the cost of the fuel i will waste sitting in traffic trying to get to the stadium.

If I get a ticket to go see a game at loftus, Ill have to walk a staggering 50m to the main gate:p

Good idea in a sence, but I'd be rather irritated with the 'free ticket' plan if I paid for a ticket.
Rather lower the prices and schedule the games a decent times so more of us can go watch if we want to. As Jungleboy said, most of us work until 16:30/17:00 during the week - how can we go and watch a game that starts at 15:00/16:00?
As for the games starting at 20:30, some of us have to work the next day and getting home at 23:00'ish is no good.

Stupid FIFA. They should have done a bit more due diligence into the income & employment arrangements of the host nation. But nooooo, FIFA worries more about crap like huge stadiums, especially the Green Point one - as far away from soccer fans as it can be, but at least FIFA's got "the mountain" as a backdrop.
 
trying to organise follow your team matches for the WC... but so far nada :(
