Free Internet on pc via VLive
Anyone heard of this yet. Apparently one can change the settings on your pc and connec tyourn phone to it and get free internet. Vodacom found out about it and has been changing it all the time but everytime some one figures out what the new settings should be.
I have the settings but not with me as of this posting. Will get back and post them as soon as possible. Thing is, if yuou only use those settings you can browse using the Opera browser. If you want to use Internet Explorer, you have to use something called the Your Freedom server (or JAP - I have no idea what this is).
It even works if you don't have a VLive cellphone. You just have to activate the VLive settings on your sim card by using it in a VLive phone for a few hours.
I'll post the settings if anyone is interested. If you can't wait for them go to the wapsite: www.prodigits.co.uk and check out the wap forum. Look for the VLive settings. There's alot to read so it'll be best if you do it from your pc. Would be great if this could be made STICKY.

What is gonig on with vodacom in the past 2 days?
I have been experiencing a lot of problems with vodacom lately. My vodafone live hardly works at the moment and is very expensive. I rate it is more than R2 a mg. I got charged R26 yesterday, or maybe even more. I have given up with vodafone live and i am just using the normal internet apn.
Also, what is the price of smses during peak? i sent an sms today. Before i sent it i had R155.57 and after i had R154.57. As far as i can remember it has never costed R1 an sms.
Another problem is that 2 ppl has sent me mms's in the past 2 days. THe one person sent it twice and i have not received any of them yet, if i was not on contract i would have gone to virgin mobile by now...

Then to crown it all, they had about a dozen sims activated on vlive, all hooked up to their PC's and bundled into one huge connection. I don;t want to talk too soon but it does appear as if things running slightly "smoover" since the "free" access was given the boot.

I think Vodacom is working on a solution to curb the "free" internet access some peeps have been enjoying for yonks already, and it's affecting every "honest" oke and his dog at the moment.

why did Vodacom allow free Vlive access for such a long time? I had the same question actually... people using Vlive, were they affecting users actually paying for the service.

We had to develop a new billing back-end to cater for new types of services including PPDB's and the lack of this system left some holes. Now that these systems are in place the holes automatically got plugged.
I don't think they affected 'paying' users, at least not in performance, more in generating moral questions
We look at the overall performance of the network and manage accordingly. As the freeloaders jump ship, we might see an improvement in performance though. Will see if I can pick it up in any trend graphs.

No more free "vlive" internet
Today i was going on the internet via vlive on my nokia 6680 and i notice that i am getting charge using the vlive portal.Well i had free internet for 9 months.Cant wait for my my vodacom contract to end going over to virgin mobile.Not going to pay R2 per meg.
