I think Vodacom is working on a solution to curb the "free" internet access some peeps have been enjoying for yonks already, and it's affecting every "honest" oke and his dog at the moment.

Smells like the old Sentech open Proxy situation.

Who wants to do a War Drive on all the Vodacom Towers ?

Lot's of beers and loads of fun.

Vlive internet

No im not saying that vodacom is a devil spawn.I enjoyed the free internet, but why must i pay R2 per meg where i can pay 50c per meg by virgin mobile.I still like vodacom but a person have to shop for the better price.I waiting to see if vodacom will better there price next year january.

Vodacom now can pass all the gigs that were used by the people over to paying custmers :D... looking at the U.K forum that was linked earlier people were downloading ALOT.

Vlive internet

Cant understand why virgin can charge there customers 50c/meg and vodacom charge R2/meg.Vodacom got +- 20 million customers what are they ripping us off. Most of my friends are just waiting for there contracts to end.And why do vodacom have us under 24 month contract in the UK they only have a 12 month contract with a free cell.

Vodacrap full of sh*t

I was one of them that used "free" internet although i hardly downloaded. Where some guys go through 1 gig a night, i went through 250 meg a month. But that still does not explain why i got charged R1 for an sms or why i am not receiving my mms when it worked fine last week.

@spamhater; the 9 months you openly and knowingly stole from Vodacom, you were not ripping Vodacom off?

So you can steal and it's OK, but when you have to pay, it's suddenly a problem?

The least you should do is to now pay for the service for another 9 months, this way you still would have paid only R1/Mb.

Maybe you'll sleep better?

Or is stealing from others par for the course in your book?

In other words you got 500 SMS's free every month?

Lol! Heard today that yesterday someone had put a 'big' file in queue to download through the night. They got a nice surprise this morning!

Over 50mb downloaded yesterday night/this morning. All with the 'vlive' apn and some kind of proxier thing(don’t ask me) with their PC. 50+mb @ R2/mb...over R100 in one night!

Ouch!

Vlive internet

So if you walk into a shop and there's no-one there and the cash register is open with lots of money, you'll take it? After all, no-one told you NOT to.

The only way you could have used the 'hole' was by configuring your PC proxy server to use the Vodacom WAP gateway. And then to use very specific browers. This did not happed accidentally.

Same principle as wireless networks. If you drive past a wirless network, and its not secure, can you use it?

People probably dont want you to, cause they not smart enough to put security up, but nothing stops you from parking next to their home with McDonalds or KFC and do downloads.

My first thread stated that i was browing da threw my cell phone dude not threw a pc and dont come by saying things like stealing. It was vodacom that opened portal for free internet you would also do what i done im not the only one.Get a live.Im happy that im paying for the internet.

@ Neo

It was possible to have free internet without the configuration u mentioned, dont ask me how

when I got my walkman I connected for free long before the vlive apn hacks etc where mentioned

not only on my pc but phone aswell... I was able to insert my sim in any device and connect for free

I think Spamhater was as lucky as me

whoa, back up the data train...

We had to develop a new billing back-end to cater for new types of services including PPDB's and the lack of this system left some holes. Now that these systems are in place the holes automatically got plugged...
does that mean what i think it means... ? :)

Nothing stops you from killing someone or to rob a bank or hijack a car, but do you do it?

Stealing is stealing, you well know that wifi network is not free. Just because someone does not know how to set up security does not give you the right to steal from them.

Maybe I will go around tonight and see who does not have an alarm system in their homes and take their stuff. After all, it's their fault for not having security.

Knowingly taking something you know for a fact is not free is stealing. It's very simple. You can't argue that away.
