You don't have any idea what goes on in the real world. This isn't a novel where they track you down through your cellphone usage. How do you think they would get your number in the first place? Most terrorists are tracked through their connections in the real world, i.e. people you meet, places you visit, things you buy like that 2 ton fertiliser while wearing a designer suite and visiting the pharmacy on the same day.

I know more about the 'real' world - as you put it - than you may think. (& don't forget, many novels are often written by people formerly in the business). To reiterate my point - missed again I think (!) - If you watch a typical movie, the FBI tries to keep the criminal on the line for 30 seconds to 'trace' him. If the average terrorist actually believed this gumpf they might be tempted to stay on the line for, say, only 20 seconds and falsely assume they could never be traced. Without knowing the level of detail about phone tracing they could well be caught.

To set you straight about intelligence gathering - MOST information is gathered electronically. Using "personal connections" is frought with difficulty and highly unreliable. It may be used as the first clue to begin an electronic sweep, but never as better substitute.

While you have given a good explanation about what is possible and/or probable, vodacom3g failed to do so. As someone clearly in the business of detecting network abuse, it would not be in his (and his colleagues') interests to reveal much about what is possible. Which is probably why he (and his usual fanclub) chose to provide unconvincing replies under a silly smokescreen about conspiracy theories and 'personalising' the issue using contempt and ridicule. I expected (and hoped) he would just reply seriously, much like you did, with some interesting and relevant details about the topic at hand. Vodacom3g obviously just didn't like the title of my original thread or questions arising from the bold claims he made about tracking and that you now pointedly debunk.

What's that about siggies changing? - maybe p.m. me...
No, just throwing it into the pot as an example. With 10,000+ members a real possibility that it has happend in the past.
From a quasi-legal standpoint, IMO what KeeS posted about raping the vlive APN for free, would not be regarded as illegal [AFAIK there is no law that says thou shalt not rape vlive], at most, what KeeS claims to have 'achieved' would be considered a breach of Acceptable Use & Terms & Conditions that apply, and Vodacom could persue civil action against KeeS [i.e. sue KeeS], but the smart thing to do is simply to prevent the rape from continuing...
But if he does not have permission to use the vlive apn for free internet then is there really any Terms & Conditions applying here? Of course there's also such a thing as permission through default. Either way I don't think the violation was serious enough to warrant any warrants and the smart thing would be for Vodacom to simply stop it from reoccurring in the future instead of possibly upsetting the status quo by taking action against the users who have not really raped their network.

Which connection. Not one of your hsdpa connections will go beyond 1.8Mbps. :p What exactly do you want to prove?

Exactly.

@Skeptik, I wish I could add you to my ignore list bcos you're really becoming rather irritating with this now, and you should realise that v3g is not responding to you bcos you're basically accusing v3g and Vodacom of wrong-doing, which any sane person would realise is not the case, why should v3g waste his time replying to your every post - he has better things to do with his time!!!
Why is that every time I mention Vodacom3g, you post something? Are you his spokesman? Why doesn't he defend himself if he feels 'wronged'? He's not royalty (as if that would make a difference).

I'm not asking him to reply to my every post either. He doesn't have to answer and neither do you, because we wouldn't want you to get irritated, now would we!

Some things I find contradictory in these paragraphs. Firstly if the FBI where involved it would most likely not be a terrorist, they have others agencies to deal with that and a terrorist will not call the FBI or someone they're involved with. It would most likely be a kidnapping and it would be cross state. This makes it harder to trace the call and 30 seconds will be inefficient to do this. There are other ways to do this after the call is completed, but that would require records and the FBI does not have the manpower to go through all of them.

It would most likely be the CIA or the NSA, the latter operating internationally. It is possible for them to track calls, but they would have to have a number to start from in the first place. Remember the recent spying scandal? They took a chance and they got caught like always. Most PERSONAL information is collected electronically, your bank details, your credit status, where you work, where you live, when you left the country, even your general medical history which is suppose to be secret. Your day to day movements like bus tickets, what you buy, who you visit, where you eat, where you go to church, what you read, etc. are not recorded electronically, ok maybe the latter is. They need actual people in the field (spies) and informants to gather that information, but according to your logic they should all be fired so the terrorists can take over. We have already seen once what happens when information from outside sources isn't followed up on. This is not the futuristic world you seem to think we are living in where your location and movement can instantly be tracked through a chip in your arm.

Are we still on this subject? I actually thought he gave the best explanation he could while staying within the boundaries of not giving out compromising information. He denied that any actual forumite was tracked and said that only usage on their network was tracked and that this KeeS person was most likely among the users who they saw abusing the network. And if that isn't enough other forumites explained it to you. Why go on about what Vodacom can or can't possibly do unless you know something we don't?

Oh my lord... you guys are still going at. dont you have enough work to do or something that you sit here and argue with eachother???

The FBI are also involved in crime abroad. They even have an office in RSA. Mainly for drug smuggling. Wasn't it the FBI who caught that Arab bomber in Pakistan?? Oh and if you have a tracer on the line, you can know instantly who is calling. If you didn't have the tracer, you could still find out all the callers to your number within minutes. This 30 seconds is nonesense. So if you were a terrorist, you would be caught. Point made :D

ic: You are now on my 'ignore the bait' list. You and Gaytechie ought to team up and get a life.;) LOL#

Whats with VLive?!

Can anyone tell me whats the thing with VLive?
First it was free...:)
but then a while back something happened at Vodacom...The internet went down for a week or so.. and when it came back on... My good friend VLive wasn't free anymore:( , that whole month we had lots of problems, the service was unstable, it went on and off all the time...

Then after a while VLive was free again:D
just a few weeks after that.... not free again:(

Hey where did my post disappear to?:( what happend?

and will VLive ever be free again?

Some forumites on the prodigits.co.uk wap & mobiles forum (only accessible with wap browsers and Opera) claim vlive! is free at this very moment (only R1 deposit on connection of which 99c is refunded after disconnecting) and that customer care told them it's going to be free indefinitely.

It's not free for me and I highly doubt those claims. I think we should just give the issue a rest - free wap is pretty pathetic, escpecially at vlive! speeds.
