This is one of my favorite things. I usually just wash the scales off them and grill them or braai them whole. Serve them with boiled potatoes, onions and peppers sprinkled with olive oil and reduced balsamic vinegar.

I had them at the Radium a while ago and they where awesome, tho I have no idea how they where prepaired.
Anyone have any nice recipe's for fresh sardines?

Cut into manageable pieces.

Put onto hook

Catch a real fish :)

Fresh sardines are delicious. They're quite oily for a fish so I like to cut them with a lemon-caper sauce. Just brown some butter, chuck in some fresh lemon juice and dried chill flakes, then add the capers once the pan is off the heat. Serve over the sardines. This sauce is sublime over most fish, but especially those that need a little acidity. The browned butter doesn't add much richness so don't worry too much about that.

You can also batter them whole and deep-fry them. Awesome on the braai with some roasted veg. Works nicely with yoghurt-curry sauces too. One of my favourites come to think about it is actually a Mexican Salsa or a Picco De Gallo over the top of them...

It said Sardines on the bag, where there sardines in the bag? No. No there where not sardines in the bag. There where triple spined stickleback in the bag. Tiny triple spined stickleback to be accurate.
HOW THE F*** do you cook a 5 cm triple spined stickleback? Google only seems to know one recipe. Deep fry em.

Ask Mannie, he'd probably tell you how they do theirs. Next time you go though try the chicken livers pirri-pirri. AWE-fricken-SOME!
