Freshphone closing down

My Mistake

Now says serviced by Telkom. How do I get the number from them? When you dial the number it says the number you have dialed does not exisitView attachment 1765266

Not really sure, maybe you can go to a telkom store and persuade them but it's unlikely they will just port that number out to you. Assuming they are nice and manage to assign it to you I would assume it would be on a telkom account, after that you could try port it but seems like a real mission, if you haven't had it in years then it might be more hassle than its worth.

well just sent home-connect a message to see if there is something they can do. Not the best provider out there but just curious of the answer

I think this is the problem all of us who use Freshphone are going to have with finding another provider. I can't find any reputable VOIP providers who do not charge a fixed monthly fee in addition to the actual call costs. Like you say, my monthly usage is significantly less than a monthly fee would be.
Have a look at Havex

I also have a VOIP number with them. No monthly fees.

Their website is a little lacking, can't seem to find a way to sign up without reaching out to them? also they seem to have these 3 packages, small fish 25c a min, medium fish 20c a min and big fish 15c a min, they all have different calling rates but seem to have the same:

  • Free DID Numbers
  • No contracts
  • No monthly fees
  • Prepaid only
  • Portable Numbers
That doesn't make sense, how do you get 3 different calling rates on the exact same free service? Did you have to speak to a consultant to sign up?

site is a little dodgy. It 1 pager and no real info about them

Also all the buttons seem to just link back to the 1 page...
yep thats what noticing as well

so you got to contact them to get an account and then more than likely once you make contact they claw you into some charges and wont be "free" they will want to make sure they get something out of you. More than likely claw you into one of the PABX packages they have listed

I'll reach out and see whats the story. But yeah the site makes me wonder a little if its their tech or just using someone else's.

Yeah, no thanks. There are just too many fly-by-nighters around. I'd rather pay my R50 a month and know that the company will still be around in a few years time and that I'm not going to end up losing my number. The only reason I signed up with Freshphone in the first place was because they were backed by Euphoria.

maybe you can try https://iptel.co.za

but not much hope with such a dismal website

The problem with all these small companies nobody's ever heard of is what happens if/when they shut down suddenly and then you're left with no way to port number over to another provider. Or you get a number from them that you put on all your social media and then you're left with no way for your customers to get hold of you.

I just went through this list to get some to look at: https://whichvoip.co.za/compare-voip-providers/
