Freshphone closing down

Maybe I will give them a try, they state they around since 2003, their facebook has posts as far back as 2011 at least.

I see my 021- number has been ported to ITCGLOBAL

Spoke to Herman at Abacus Telecomm. They offer a very similar service to Freshphone and for R185 will port the number again

ITCGLOBAL is the upstream provider for Euphoria/Freshphone.

My Mistake

Now says serviced by Telkom. How do I get the number from them? When you dial the number it says the number you have dialed does not exisitView attachment 1765266
Apply for a Telkom VOIP line (Telkom IP Voice), try asking them if they can allocate that number to you. I remember with the old copper lines you could request a specific number.. Maybe if you still have an old statement/invoice ask them to re-instate your original number on a IP Voice line..

Then once the line is active on Telkom's side, port the number to whichever provider you want to use.

Telkom's IP Voice is around R52 per month, so definately worth a try if you just have to pay for one month before porting.

I'm pleased to inform everyone that the porting of my geographic landline number (initially ported from Telkom to Freshphone) from Freshphone to Afrihost VOIP was successful and went off without a hitch. I was informed this morning that my port was successful, and as soon as I entered the SIP details of my new Afrihost VOIP account into my 3CX PBX I was able to make and receive calls from that number.

So for anyone concerned about porting out their geographic numbers from Freshphone, rest assured that the authorisation letter you can request from Euphoria/Freshphone is all you need to prove your ownership of the number and successfully port it out to another VOIP provider. Special thanks to certain members in this thread who know who they are who were able to help with this process.

To which account at Freshphone did you send the email with the authorization letter?

Porting or Accounts?

I emailed [email protected]

In email I just said something like:

"Please could you send me a confirmation letter for me to port out my geographic landline number xxxx which I want to port out to Afrihost."

Abacus said they cannot use a Grandstream ATA adaptor.

I got stuck at the Afrihost login page. It seems I already have an account, but "Lost password" shows "No account"

That sounds like BS to me. A SIP trunk is a SIP trunk, it makes no difference whatsoever what device is connected to the SIP trunk. A Grandstream ATA adaptor is just another SIP client. If a normal SIP phone can connect to a SIP trunk then so can the Grandstream Adaptor.

That does seem very strange, maybe they exclusively provision devices and grandstream isn’t one of the supported ones.

That's even worse. Personally when I buy a SIP trunk or account I don't want to be told what devices I can or cannot use. Sell me the SIP trunk and let me decide what I connect to it.

As for Afrihost VOIP, I can confirm that it works perfectly well as a proper SIP trunk. I've got my 3CX PBX server connected to it without any issues.

Abacus are the better option for me because they are the cheapest around but they have no client portal and no app.

They dont work outside south africa either, which was a nice feature of freshphone

I'm using ZOIPER wirh Abacus Telecomm. Works 100%

Programmed a neighbour's Grandstream ATA adaptor successfully

Used WhatsApp while overseas, or FaceTime

Zoiper wasn't bad, but I found Linphone to be much better if you ignore the linphone specific features and just use it as a voip phone it is great.
