Hmmm...when we first got the service we asked some of the techies at the helpdesk what would be classified as acceptable use. They said there wouldn't be any problems if we downloaded 2gig or less on the 256k package per day. Now this crap. I must admit even if I tried to download 2gigs a day with the crap speeds we have I would never get there. Are we going to be capped now? Or are they going to start monitoring what we are downloading?

Just for everyones info...... the "DR" bit just means you have a doctorate....whoopee twang

In other words you have spent way to much time at University studying (HIDING from the real world) and have published in ACADEMIC journals etc....

The short and sweet is that you are a MASTER of THEORY but have NO PRACTICAL, REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE........

Some how i think that could be showing.......

Just found out they had PRESS conference this morning...... and they shmooze the press instead of the customers...... cant get my head around how they think the press are going to stop us from bitching!!!!! especially when they are interested and they are enjoying the story that is unfolding......KEEP THE PRESSURE UP

you can never spend too much time at university, and studying at university alot doesnt mean you are hiding from the real world.....Not defending the Dr but .. university can be very important.

Well, Dr. N.D.Zuma is as I understand it, a real medical doctor yet that powers that be demoted her from Minister of Health. A Dr. prefix is on official way of sounding smart.. but when you say please hesitate to call me, man, thats funny. You cant beat that. They sure are an entertaining bunch Dr. Potgieter and Mr Raaf.

Donn is correct ............ but I think it is 30 modems not 300.

Sentech has been hacked, they are owned by local group that is raping the bandwidth. Not at 512 levels, but closer to the 3MB limit of the unit and prioritising bandwidth on the network.

Sentech is hosting some local hackers MP3 wet dream ! [:D]

There is mail circulating ...... [;)]

Hey

TheRodent
I was just wondering if you could give us some more info on what it is exactly you know. I'm sure I'm not the only person sitting waiting behind my PC to find out exactly what's been going on. What time will you let us know exactly what the story is? Who's to blame? Is it Sentech who've been pulling some scaly moves or some outside party sort of leaching off the network or is it something relating to the actual configuration of the network?

Thanks, good to have ppl like you fighting the battle on behalf of ppl like me - the less informed , equally abused consumer

:O

How can the network be hacked so easily? It must be the work of some Sentech or IPW engineers. There are some pretty smart people in here and nobody picked it up. Im sure somebody gave somebody else access to create free usernames. Of course, its now our fault. Definitely time to call in Carte Blanche.

But this is a hot, hot story. How does one get further details? Can't wait to get a juicy story like this to some journos.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have an inferiority complex. But it's only a little one.

the longer rodent takes the bigger the announcement.... thats for sure, if it was little mickey mouse thing we would have heard by now and would have spent the morning bitching to each other.... its bigger than that, sure rodent has been getting legal advise etc this morning so should be damn interesting.... as im typing this just got a call from clinton at sentech, potgieter chased him to find out why im not happy, told him the usual blah blah, then i says to him, its all over the net, the media, the news, that sentech has been hacked etc these guys chomping up the bandwidth, whats the deal, he says yes he has heard that too, but should get an official response tomorrow when casper is back.

seems to me that the rodent response is going to be in this direction too..

I reckon the hackers should be prosecuted. We've suffered intolerable speeds coz of these filthy fekkers. Fsck knows how much it's cost Sentech and of course us, the unlucky bastards that are using the system legitimately..

I’ve heard that some people has run a sort of a sniffing/scanning utility and got hold of usernames and passwords and it works. But that is all hear say and as per previous post the technology should be secure

she said i was welcome to say on this forum about her call.... further to my earlier post clinton was sitting in her office and told her about the hackers, she wanted to know how i knew, i said it was all over the net, she said it wasnt. i asked her if she reads my adsl.. she says and she kept repeating over and over again in the conversation about responsible journalism, and that my adsl is going to crash mywireless even before its managed to sort out its teething problems, i say but its an open discussion forum and there are very many unhappy users out there, why does no one from sentech respond on that forum? she says they would not stoop to that level, so they created a bulletin board on sentech.co.za. i say you cant respond to the damn thing, its one sided, she says but you can send an email and sentech will respond, i say you may as well call the help desk, she say yeah suppose so, i say but then no one helps there..... its just went on and on .... it was hilarius. wait here comes an email from her now.
