FTTH - Blairgowrie - Vumatel

My solution was put my TP-Link wireless access point in the ceiling.

It gets it's power over the network cable, so it was just a matter of running a cable up the same trunking I had installed prior to Vumatel's instalation.

This was my plan for some time and finally got round to it on Wednesday. Now, even with all doors closed, we get great signal even in the furthest room.

Phase 1-9 ready, am I seeing it right!? I placed my order from http://vumatel.co.za/order/ quite a while ago earlier this year, they have contacted me to get landlords' details etc.

But what does the 'fibre ready' mean then for me living in an apartment complex in phase 9? Have they installed all apartment blocks with the fibre distribution boxes, from where then if you have signed up for a data plan, the fibre will be then installed into your apartment?

I haven't received any other communication from Vumatel, when will I pay the R1710 fee?

Multi unit dwellings are on a different time scale as far as I know.

Ah man  that sucks, then they shouldn't have marked the phase fibre ready. I will phone Vuma tomorrow and try and find out more info.

Read what it says though.

The phases are ready - I'm in phase 8, got installed this week.
Sucks that you have to wait though, sorry man.

It's worth the wait, I promise.

New to Blairgowrie and new to this forum. Any news on fibre installations? I'm in phase 13 waiting patiently. As much as I can at least...

Welcome...

It's worth the wait. Haven't seen updates for a while but last I saw they were activating about phase 11 so it should be within the next month or two, barring issues.

Cool thanks Sinbad will keep my eyes open on further updates then

I know this is a bit off topic, but does anyone perhaps know when the AGM minutes will be released? I wasn't able to attend the meeting.

How long in advance of my fibre home installation do I need to cancel Telkom?

And anyone been through the process to cancel telkom and survived?

Telkom require 30 day notice period, and then it takes them in my case about 3 months to actually cancel the line. Get ready for an uphill battle.

I spoke to Vuma's senior liason for Blairgowrie last week. They're aiming to complete Phase 13 by the end of June. I'm in Phase 12 and seems they're nearly done with it, so timelines seem realistic from what I see.

I can't wait to book my actual installation date (and cancel my ADSL account). It's been a long painful wait, frustrating at times. But overall, I've been impressed with Vuma's handling of the obstacles they encountered in this project.

@mozez have you done your application as yet, I'm sure you can apply at least in the meantime as there is some backlog on the installs.

I applied just before VUMA started trenching in Blairgowrie, so am hoping I won't be too far down in the queue once my phase is live.

Has anyone in an apartment complex been connected yet? It is just sad that I have to sit back, wait and observe how everyone else gets connected around us.

Im in phase 9 btw.

MDUs add an additional level of complexity, not Vumas fault really.
