FTTH - Blairgowrie - Vumatel

MDUs add an additional level of complexity, not Vumas fault really.

Thanks I understand that, but they already working on phase 12, and as far as I know our body corporate are already all in with it.

Don't get me wrong, im not like a child that's bitching and wants his candy now, im just someone trying to understand why it takes so long to finish up the 1 phase.

It requires a separate project plan and approval from the body corporate. Trenching etc within the complex can be tricky, all kinds of challenges.

I understand, I guess I have to wait a few months more :(

Hi guys

We just had a SteerCo and talked specifically about MDU's.

Note, there is a legal requirement that 75% of residents sign off for Fibre to be installed in the complex. This is not a Vuma requirement but a legal one. So if there is an AGM, please get everybody to go or you will be delayed.

Please guys, you have to help here.

Just to be a bit more clear. It does not mean that 75% needs to take up fibre, but that 75% needs to say they are happy for fibre to be installed in the complex

That's a relief, this past week and the week before that the fibre boxes have been installed at my complex on Bram Fischer, so hopefully it wont be long before I get contacted? or do I need to contact someone?

I have already signed up on the website earlier this year.

And excuse my lack of knowledge of acronyms, what does AGM stand for? Annual General Meeting? Assistant General Manager? Above Gross Margin? Aorta Gonad Mesonephros? Artillery Gun Module? Attack Guidance Matrix? Ignore the last bunch :D was just joking. :crylaugh:

Uh. No.

I'm a trustee at a complex of 175 units. Minimum signup is 30%. Vuma construction has already started in the complex. ETA 3 weeks to complete.

Like I said, not sign up, but at the AGM, 75% of residents need to agree that they allow fibre to be installed in the complex, the 30% sign up is separate. I am only relaying the information that I received.

Apologies for hijacking thread. Am finally getting fibre for my place this Friday, phase 12 finally live. I assume some of you cancelled your Telkom ADSL lines. Recommended foolproof way of cancelling both ADSL and phone line?

Am nervous about using store route in case forms get "lost". This has happened to some of my family members who were merely cancelling a telkom line. Will bite bullet if it's only way though.

Good Luck, I had to make a complaint with the consumer commission as 2 months after cancelling, they still kept my line active.

Telkom is useless. The details Sinbad provided is correct. But follow up, get numbers, hassle them daily. Make their life a living hell, or they won't cancel your line

Cool, will make sure I persist on the cancellation request. Good thing is that I pay via Credit Card, no debit orders. So worst case scenario, if they don't cancel, I don't pay. But regardless, will push till line cancelled.

Do you need to give a month notice for the Telkom phone and ADSL cancellation? Or is it supposdd to be immediate, subject to the usual Telkom inefficiencies?

I think it's more than a month on the landline cancellation to be honest. But theoretically a month yes

Thanks

We should be going live with installations starting in last week of July or early August. I asked the vuma rep to confirm if I can go ahead now with Telkom cancellation and he advised I wait until they book installation.

I have already reduced my Afrihost ADSL package for August from business uncapped to 50gig capped.

Im finally getting my fibre installed into my apartment on Tuesday after many months of waiting. I am thinking of joining Cool Ideas. Anyone here have had bad experiences with them?

Also I am a bit confused, on their application form you must choose 1 of 3 choices, Self install own Router, Self install Free Router or Collect at office.

The Self install own router option states in brackets "Can't be an ADSL modem" and in their FAQ it says it needs a WAN port. I assume the "Can't be an ADSL modem" is referring to a ADSL modem ONLY and not Router/Modem.

I have a N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN2200v4 which has got a WAN port.

So im guessing I will be ok with choosing the Self Install Own router option?
