Hi Guys

For the last 2 weeks they have been digging up the whole of erasmusrand and it looks like laying fibre with the green sleeving, im guessing its openserve. I will try to post pics when I can. My question is does anybody know if it is indeed FTTH or are they only extending the DFA line that runs through rigel over the highway to Erasmuskloof?

Hi,

Have you checked if you area is coloured in light purple (planned FTTH) on this Telkom FTTH coverage map? http://www.telkom.co.za/coverage/

I know that Telkom is rolling out in Erasmuskloof and it is most likely them.

Otherwise you can check other ISP's coverage maps.

Yes I have checked a few but could only find planned coverage for Lightspeed Internet and it seems that coverage site was updated ages ago. As far as I know the whole Erasmuskloof, Monumentpark Area already has fibre available.

The digging leads to existing telephone poles in Erasmusrand as far as I see. Quite likely that it's Telkom FTTH.

Keep an eye out for installation of overhead fibre next to existing copper runs.

I was checking the coverage map and it has indeed been updated. Going to try and find out when they will be done and see if I can order. The telephone pole outside my house already has the fibre box although it doesn't look as if it has been hooked up completely. Now Just to wait and see!

Phone line & Adsl has been down since tuesday morning, I spoke to my neighbors and they have nothing aswell. Logged a fault to telkom and has been escalated twice but still no word as to what the problem is. Any one else in erasmusrand having the same experience? No information was given that our lines would be offline or If they are ever going to be on again until fibre arrives.

So after a month downtime I have ADSL again, it seems the fibre installers disconnected me entirely at the exchange!?!?!? Idiots!
The fibre splicing box has been chilling on the pole for more than 2 months and has finally been connected and we still have no indication of when fibre will be live.

As of this morning the coverage map has been updated again, about a quarter of erasmusrand fibre is live from the polaris street side.

ONT Device & Cable Install was done on Thursday, techies said something was wrong at the exchange and it should only be sorted by Monday.
Now Just hoping they come back for the activation.

Just drove past a Telkom promo thingy in Monument Park advertising fibre... must maybe go past there to check it out in more detail
