Just putting this out there - like everybody else in SA we are frustrated with the communication infrastructure in our area. We are in an area where ADSL is terrible, mobile operator signals are weak - hills - and you struggle to get LOS on Wisps. Everybody is exciting about introducing fibre in the area but don't realise the effort and commitment required to get this to work. I planned for 1 to 2 years until implementation.
The question:
There seems to be a lot of companies popping up willing to lay fibre infrastructure due to the hype surrounding this technology. How does one distinguish between fly by nights and professional companies that will go the distance and stay committed?
We are serious about implementing this in our little neighbourhood but want to make the correct selection. We are surrounded on all sides by DFA and MTN fibre but require a service provider willing to do the 'last mile' infrastructure and tie-ins. There also seems to be a min amount of households required before anybody is interested.
