Montana Park
A while ago I tried to get fiber installed in Montana Park in the block of Braam Pretorius, Visvanger, Besembiese & Spoonbill. I have contacted Lightspeed (Cybersmart) again and fiber is available however need enough people. Thus if anybody is interested please submit your interest: http://www.lightspeed.co.za/home_users.php

This would apply for anybody in the Montana Park area

Apparently people got connected in Fynbos Street which is also just residential.

Or if you have any alternative fiber providers you prefer can we post links here.

If you targeting only complexes then get in touch with the body corporate. If you doing it for your neighbourhood then try getting assistance from the CPF, Whatsapp groups (hard to convince) and contact the people runing the website http://doornpoortresident.co.za/ to place an Ad there. Their contact details are on the website. They might lead you to a residents association for Montana if there is any. Telkom is planning FTTH rollout for Zambezi Country Estate maybe try see if you guys can be included in the rollout. There is few signups on the Pretoria North Fibre initiative from Annlin to Montana.

I'm also interested in this. Live in Veda Avenue just below Braam Pretorius.

Below are links I have received thus far for registering interest in FTTH.
The more interest we get registered the quicker we will get FTTH

For Openserve it seems they are still considering but they are busy with Zambezi Country Estate (thus we may be included in rollout if we show enough interest)
For Lightspeed it is available just need enough people.

Well since there is no communication from Telkom, my guess is that it will be around June 2017 to turn from light purple to dark purple. But just monitor Zambezi Country Estate because as soon as it turns dark purple then you know the rest of the area will be next.

Today I followed the by now filled in trenching to where it turns in to a property with cell tower on the roof in Hadeda Rd. Sadly it seems the the work they were doing was unrelated to FTTH. We live on in hope.

This is the latest update from Lightspeed/Cybersmart (2016/12/15)

Good day Arnold

Thank you for your email.

The FTTH product is delivered in high density areas that have been confirmed viable and feasible, that is, are within a certain distance from existing fibre line and we have received required amount of subscriptions for the location. Typically this product is aimed at complexes and apartment buildings, but can be adapted to suburban locations, provided the above criteria has been fulfilled.

Regarding your location we have only 5 applications in the database. We would require at least 48 sign ups for the area to be feasible.

Once there is sufficient interest in the area and it has been confirmed as feasible, we would then start the installation process. It would take approximately 90 days turnaround time for installation to the central distribution point, unless we experience delays with permits or similar external delays.

I trust this information is clear and should you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards

Mlako

That is a standard reply. The only thing they omitted is the Rand value attached to the 48 sign ups (guaranteed minimum monthly commitment)

Has anybody seen any trenching or any work whatsoever? I know Zambezi Estate was earmarked first thus I presume they will be getting first. Thus has anything happened In Zambezi Estate or anywhere for that matter in the area where it shows Future Fiber from Openserve?

Telkom is signing up people for fibre in the Montana Park area already. They are today (Saturday 4th Feb) at the traffic circle at the Braam Pretorius / Visvanger junction. There seems to be a LOT of interest. They claim that everything is in place and the whole area will soon be connected. We'll see.

I checked yesterday (3 Feb) and the area was still light purple on the Openserve website but when I saw the guys at the traffic circle they showed me a certain section is already dark purple. Apparently the rest will be active in about 6 weeks.

Saw a huge telkom sign at Dr Van Der Merwe RD decided to stop and hear what's going on (thought we would get lucky and we could finally sign up for fiber ) .The lady there told me we could only sign up for VDSL (max 40mbps) that would be released around March they just need to activate it ,she then told me "the supply in your area is not high enough for us to actively invest in fiber installations.

The only way I will ever see fiber in my lifetime is if I move to Sandton , Rosebank area

Depends of the coverage area where you stay. I see a portion of Dr van der Merwe is in the planned fiber.

Do you fall in planned part?

Yes I am in the area .Montana area has being on the planned fiber coverage map since early last year so I think we are looking at late 2017 or 2018

I see Telkom just updated the planned fiber for the area and the whole of Dr van der Merwe is planned now. Basically everything up to Lavender. It also seems they are starting at the Highway's side and then moving in. Zambezi estate was earmarked first but it seems they started at the highway.

Thus I think you are correct somewhere in this year or next.

I was on holiday last week the whole week. I live in Veda Avenue in Montana Park in a estate. Any idea if it's possible to signup for fibre, or when the fibre will be active in the area?
