When I spoke to Telkom they said 6 weeks (if that will happen we will have to wait and see).
Thus you can either sign-up with Telkom or another ISP.
With WebAfrica you can place your order even though its not active yet just as long it is in the planned area.

Telkom will stick you with a 2 year contract. WebAfrica is month to month (however there is an early cancellation fee)
 
Man I really hope it is 6 weeks. I'm currently on LTE contract but more than willing to pay for both.
 
Anyone knows if there is something special an Estate must do to request Fibre? Or is it also just the waiting game?
 
Anyone knows what's happening with the fibre in Montanapark? I've tried contacting multiple people at Telkom and no one could help me.
 
Living in Bougainvillea Estate and for the last few days workers are busy with fiber cables in the estate.
 
I have been monitoring the coverage on a daily basis and it hasn't seemed to move yet. Still same blocks dark purple. When I spoke to the Telkom Sales Reps when they were selling their FTTH (corner Braam Pretorius and Visvanger) they stated 6 weeks....well that's up end of this week. Telkom lying again?? I would have expected the the dark purple to move at least. I personally have not seen any additional trenching or work being done in the area thus if anybody sees anything please post.
 
I've just seen that there is that yellow/orange netting on the pavement along Enkeldoorn behind the Kolonnade. It seems to have been there for some time and looks neglected and sagging. Much like Telkom I suppose. Incidentally, when I asked at the Telkom fibre promotion six weeks ago in Visvanger, I was told that everything was in place in the Montana Park area, but unsurprisingly it seems that Telkom may have been somewhat economical with the truth. There is still no indication that anything at all is happening outside of the few blocks in the eastern part of the suburb where FTTH is supposedly already available.

I think that is DFA to tell you the truth, I also got excited when I saw digging but that ended very abruptly.

Telkom will probably make use of their existing MSAN footprint to bring fibre into the area. Probably this is why everything from the N1 to Lavender road lit up like a Christmas tree in less then a week after they confirmed feasibility.

The main work they will probably have to do is replace all the existing copper conduits with fibre.
 
Today, Sunday 19th, I saw some Openserve technicians in action in Eagle street. Of course I stopped to find out what was going on. Very pleasant fellow working at a manhole told me they were installing fibre for customers in the region that was already active. That particular area went dark purple on their map about six weeks ago. I may be jumping to conclusions, but it seems that one can expect installation in 6-8 weeks only after a region becomes dark purple. He had no idea when that would be for the rest of the currently light purple areas to the West.
 
The coverage map has not moved yet. Still the same area dark purple. I see a lot of trenching close to Wonderboom Laerskool and lower down Elizabeth Street but nothing in our area yet. I have contacted my uncle which works with fiber installations (not Openserve) if he has any info. Will post as soon as he gets back to me.
 
This morning I saw Telkom signs and flags in Visvanger St. saying that our area now has LTE. All good and well, but we really would prefer fibre! Let's just hope that it doesn't mean that the planned area is being unplanned and we get LTE coverage as a consolation prize.
 
Hmm that is weird. We have been LTE for a while now....I have had it for almost 2 years now. Unless they are expanding coverage (when I got it I was right on the border)
 
Guess who's got fiber....definitely not me .I drove past where they started digging and there's still nothing going on . My best guess is they are waiting for documents / contractors to start installing the fiber .

I am with Vodacom and I always have full signal at home so really no point in getting Telkom LTE (uncapped LTE is sold out anyway)
 
There is once again a Telkom tent and signs stating "Get fibre here" at the traffic circle in Visvanger Rd. When I asked where "here" was, it turns out that it is only the tiny area in the East which is dark purple on the coverage map. The area to the West will have to wait "six months to a year". The tent people of about two months ago said that everything is is place for the whole area, which of course it isn't. There is no visible activity either. Meantime the old copper line at home has increased in price and become even less reliable. Patience is supposed to be a virtue.
 
Congrats Bougainvillea estate you guys are finally getting fiber .Stopped had a chat with a very nice guy about the whole fiber situation (Danie/Daniel if I remember correctly ).Told me they are busy rolling out the fiber from builders warehouse side and we should just be patient it will reach us soon enough

Why is it so tough to get 50 people signed up in the Montana Park area? I am sick and tired of my ADSL service, and 512 kbps upload....
 
That is the reason I started the thread with links for more people to show interest. I tried getting Lightspeed installed originally, handed out flyers in peoples mail boxes and talked to them. Some people are just clueless. Either don't know what fiber is, or don't use the internet. ( I even spoke to one person who still used dial-up ). Some were interested but I could not get enough people to sign up. At least we are in the planned area with Openserve with certain parts already active.
 
Money rather gets spent on DSTV and generators so that they can watch whatever it is they watch when the area has its frequent power cuts. Clueless indeed. Vox had a fibre sign-up stand in the Kolonnade recently. Maybe things will change
