FTTH Montana Park

Does anybody have Telkom FTTH? Reason for asking is Telkom has been advertising the product however the coverage map has not moved in a very long time. I personally refuse to use Telkom as ISP due to the 2 year contract thing and crappy service in the past I received from them.

Seeing that Telkom and Openserve were once one...isn't this maybe a case for the competition commission. Thus if you use Telkom you can get FTTH but any other ISP you cant because the map isn't updated.
 
Saw technicians at cnr Braam Pretorius and Bianca as well. Seems they are gearing up which gives me hope that we will be covered soon.
 
I received a letter in the mailbox yesterday and I spoke to the technician. Currently they need access to the premises to lay the fiber (but not connect to the houses). The fiber will apparently follow the same route as the copper cables. When the main fiber is in then it should turn dark purple and we should then be able to apply to the ISPs which will then organise the connection from the pole to your house. He was unable to tell me how long it will take to lay the main fiber.

Who else received letters?
 
For interest sake of being in the north, Telkom have set up camp on the corner of Orsula & Cecil Ave.
This does not affect Montana Park but at least shows there is some activity happening in the north.

Lots of man hole covers, conduit piping, and reels of tubing.
 
Last week Thursday I arranged with Openserve (or rather the company contracted by Openserve) access to my property. They wanted to pull the main fiber via the old telephone poles. Hmmm the cable was to short thus they had to pull the cable back. They said Monday or Tuesday they will be back. I haven't seen them again. I also haven't seen any other technicians in the area.

Has anybody seen technicians this week in the area?
 
FYI again for those who are interested, they are using the street lighting poles to also carry Fibre. I have noticed on a few poles now where they have been installing little eyelets to carry the cable from the exchange to a man hole cover.

This will probably give the guys an indication if they are busy with their area or not.

Last night I saw a sponsored AD on Facebook.

It was along the lines of Telkom fibre and Vumatel for Montana Park, I thought that the fibre being installed was openserve ?
 
Today (7th June) there are teams busy splicing and installing black boxes in the area. According to one of the technicians, getting access to properties is a problem. Nevertheless, it's good to see actual progress!
 
Have the pole set up with the orange line against it in Haak en Steek Avenue just about 30 metres from my home......ready to follow the copper wire in to my house. Hopeful...

Yes I know this, but why would Vuma be advertised on a Telkom website in Montana.

If you check the Vuma website they have no coverage in Pretoria North. Yet according to the advert you can get Telkom data on a Vuma leased line in Montana Park.

VUMA operates and manages the VUMA fibre network. VUMA is the infrastructure provider and is therefore responsible for the maintenance of the network and the installation of the physical line into your home. VUMA is not an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and therefore does not provide any services over the network.

Technicians came to my house and wanted to install the black boxes but because the fiber was pulled back (no line) they couldn't do anything. New technicians arrived and pulled the main fiber via the telephone poles thus now waiting for the black box technicians to come back. I spoke to the black box technicians when the first arrived and the have to do the whole area and all should be completed in 2 months. At least we have progress in the area.

They installed the fibre on the existing telephone pole at the back of my house. I am between Dabchick Street and Vleiloerie Street in Braam Pretorius.

Now the glass is just hanging there, staring at me.
 
Fibre installed alongside the telephone line, Elizabeth/Kol Du Preez Street in Annlin. Could not get any info on when it will go live from the contractors installing it. Cannot be too long now, as this is right at the edge of the planned roll out according to the Openserve map (FWIW).
 
They installed the black box on the telephone pole today. Now it is just staring at me waiting to be used.

Cable runs via phone line and technicians have installed black box on the pole. I also have not seen any activity thus either they are done and we will get connected soon or some other problem preventing further roll out. They have been busy in the area for while but the dark purple never moves it is the same area that is active since they started. Wish they would hurry up.
