FTTX here sooner than expected

2 years...nice. Can't wait.

Whoever gets there first is going to make a killing.

Remember two years actually means 10 years in Africa.
Would be nice to get rid of the DSL disconnects though.

Angus Hay, Neotel’s chief technology officer, said that he would not be surprised to see fibre to the home within the next two years, but made it clear that this should not be taken as a planned launch date of residential fibre services by Neotel.

Lol. Yea after the "Begining of 2007", Middle "2007", "End 2007", "Coming soon" BS from Neotel they will probably not ever set a date down again.

I am still waiting for this mythical "Neotel launches consumer services in Cape Town". Sure they cover about 5% of Cape Town, but that hardly means they are in Cape Town. :D

He expects that densely populated areas such as gated villages and business parks will experience the benefits of FTTX first.
This begs a question.
How does density differ between gated village and any suburb block?

He must be referring to fact that most newly build properties are build so close.

There are denser populated area's though.. townships.....what about them density MR Dark Fiber Africa?

Oh and on top of that, fiber to house will only be useful if concept of capping is thing of past just like Telkom. Bet ya Ivi will have appeal or two re that...

lollies

Damn, can't we request a feature for myadsl? Calender.
Imagine two years from now precisely Myadsl's calender shows (were supposed to have fibre by now).
I shall really be suprised if in two years time there is any residential fibre products out here in za.

Colour me sceptic.
Sounds very much just like a ceo japping off without really being serious.

there is no Neotel service in CPT full stop

Neotel CPT rollout is more like very very limited a trial

reminds me of those jokers from pretoria, power over electrical lines or something.. every few months they make media release frenzy about how their service roll out is imminent blady blah

Hmmmm... lets see... SNO was supposed to arrive in 2001 but arrived in 2008. So this should be here in 9 years time... if all goes well with the economy it should only be marginally more expensive than the current exprbitant prices.

I Like that idea a lot...So why don't we have a MyBB calender with proposed launch dates of products from different businesses..?
