I was seriously looking into getting a 3D printer about 2 years ago. I should have I might have made an absolute killing. Still want to get one of these babies
OLED will only be worth it, if the cost of a 42" tv will be around R3'000, because the life span of OLED is a maximum of 3 years. Who is going to pay in their rite mind for a tv thats costs R20'000 for something that WILL break in 3 years. The manufacturers stated they are trying to achieve a life span of 25'000 hours. And OLED is by no means cheaper than current LCDs. I'll support once the price is fair for a consumer type product ready for the bin in 3 years.
The only thing useful about it is that it will be super thin and use less electricity. Like the demo that showed an OLED sheet wrapped around the guy's wrist.
If you look at the energy used in production and the rate at which you will need to replace them, OLED displays are an environmental disaster. They last nowhere near as long as LCD. I think even Plasma beats OLED. The 40% less energy is saves in operation is lost in the lifespan.
Same goes for people buy new cars because they are more environmentally friendly. Sure - while in operation it might be kinder to mother nature but building the thing and also recycling your order car will consume a lot of energy and put more stress on the environment.
The big picture people - think about it. And I don't mean 42" display with that
