I Got to play with a windows surface tablet and as soon as it starts getting all the good apps out there its going to be a hit. Its really something amazing.
But i would wait before going for that unless you are willing to wait a bit and see how the apps grow on it.

I personally have a Transformer prime and its amazing tablet also the dock makes it really nice when you need to type a long email or want to write allot of stuff. and the extended battery life is also a huge plus.

I disagree about wifi only tabs. I had the Asus transformer and thought I would just use my phone as a hotspot. It was such a schlep every time I wanted to connect.

The day I realised I had to have a 3G tablet... I was sitting in a meeting with a guy who had an ipad with 3G. We are both taking notes and want to send some updates to our teams. He simply sent the note via email. Meanwhile, I had to pull the phone out, stress that my battery was low and switching on hotspot destroys battery, connect, wait for the signal to shown up, connect, wait authorisations and what not and then finally send.

You might say that's not such a big deal, but when you have to do it 5 to 10 times a day it can be tiresome. Your tablet without 3G just doesn't work as seamlessly. I have the ipad 3 and now love it.
 
Pretty much all modern day smartphones have wifi hotspot feature... wifi only isn't a big deal.
