I'm interested in this deal. I'd also like some clarification on the lte question.

Also what warranty will Samsung offer, I won't be using the mtn sim, so they won't honour any warranty.

Anyone have experience with these guys?

The LTE version of the Note 2 has NOT yet been launched. As far as things look this is actually the standard N7100.
The LTE version will be N7105

Hi guys.

Okay, I'm here to clarify. The initial specs that we were provided with, by MTN, were that the phone was going to be LTE compatible. We phoned to confirm this morning, and they told us that the phone is actually the N7100 and not LTE compatible. My sincerest apologies for the confusion, we can only relay what we are told.

We have amended all adverts to be correct.

Despite the phone not being LTE enabled, there isn't really any infrastructure to take advantage of LTE capabilities just yet. ;)

For you out in the middle of no-where maybe :) I am smack bang in the middle of LTE coverage.

The Samsung warranty is for the second year of phone usage. I believe that as long as you activate the SIM and make a phone call from it, your MTN warranty will be activated. We are going to phone MTN and just 100% confirm what the implications of non-ongoing use are for the warranty. I'll keep you posted.

a deal that sounds too good to be true is probably a deal too good to be true.

just like FNB's new deals. Sign away for R69 for an iPad and most people dont know that they ammend your banking contract and remove your unlimited cash withdrawl benefit, thereby incurring a bunch of additional charges

careful guys, lots of sharks out there these days (not aimed at BFore)

We have spoken to MTN. What we were told is that as long as your SIM is activated and you use it immediately, MTN will (as a general rule) honour your warranty. The only exception to that rule seems to be if you choose to enter into a dispute/legal battle with MTN, where they will throw the legal team at you with the non-usage of the SIM card as ammunition. This would happen in the instance of, for example, you dropping your phone in the toilet. ;) Phone takes water damage, you say it doesn't have water damage. Cat fight ensues. Then there's trouble. :p

MTN apparently will hardly ever kick up a fuss regarding replacement phones when it's a high-use SIM card. The trend is that they don't fuss much as long as you just activate your SIM and use it once or twice at the onset.

While this is very wise advice, with this particular deal, what you see is what you get. :)

We are selling the phone at below cost as a marketing ploy, which happens to be working very well. ;) Every time one of these is purchased, we are losing money.

You could say that we just find this method of advertising more effective than pamphlets. :p

Loss leader. Im quite familair with this sales promotion/marketing strategy. Its more popular with bigger names, but not usually with smaller businesses. Typically its not a business model that can be absorbed on an ongoing basis, unless you really have some good tricks up your sleeve and know exactly what you doing.

Well they say that retaining customers for return business is 5 times cheaper than attracting a new customer through traditional marketing. So I see where you're coming from.

Can MTN tell from which phone a sim card was used? Any chance of sticking the MTN sim card in another phone or iPad and using it from there?

What are your delivery charges?

Anyone bought - willing to take a chance.

BTW: for cell c, their warranties work like this.
They will check the the IMEI number of the phone was registered on their network within the previous 3 months, if not, the warranty void.
Does not matter even if you use the sim in another phone.

They can tell which phones SIM cards are in. Again, we feel that this is not an issue unless the client plans on getting into a fight with MTN.

My suggestion – use the SIM in the Note 2 for a day or 2 (maybe over a weekend) and then keep it safely aside or use it in another phone.

Remember there is a 3 month carryover of airtime so if not used the airtime will be lost.

Im not too clued up on MTN at the moment.

Would you mind expanding on exactly what the R1200 airtime can get one?

What does R1200 translate to in data? free min? R1200 sounds like a lot, but I got a feeling it doesnt translate into that much

It's anytime 50 every month. I think it can be used for data or calls but can't remember exactly. Left MTN ages ago.

To be honest, it really isn't that much. It's R50 per month that can be used on calls/data/smses. :) Obviously you can top this up with airtime should you wish to use it further.

We do also arrange packages with higher amounts of airtime (Up to Anytime 350) so if you would prefer one of those, I suggest you give us a call. :)
