Galaxy Note 8

I thought the release date is the 22nd for South Africa? It would be great if it's the 15th though.
I actually thought it was the 15th, but yesterday the dude at the Samsung shop told me their pre-orders end the 14th and clients receive phones the 22nd.

I'm still hoping for the 15th from Telkom. But let's see.

Officially it is the 22nd, but vodacom has it a week early for pre-orders only. From what I understand, the instore launch is only next Friday.
The Vodacom pre-order seems kinda pointless if they don't contact customers who pre-ordered.

In any case, I'm giving them until Wednesday to contact me after which I'll be looking at other options.

There's one thing I noticed with the display models of the Note 8 when viewing them at Gateway. Samsung has not fixed the S-pen displacement. Both display models of the Note 8 in one of the stores I played with have a 1 - 2mm displacement of the S-pen cursor from the pen tip. I had a Note pro tablet and when this happened, Samsung couldn't fix it. After a software update on my Note 5 it went off by 1mm. And now I noticed this on the Note 8.

I would be really upset in spending so much of money and having this issue on a new device. I haven't been using magnetic cases or the phone has not been near anything which would cause this. Samsung does not even have a calibration setting. I really love the phone, but this is a major issue Samsung needs to sort out.

Surely the calibration should sort it? The reviews I've watched they accuracy of the S Pen is mentioned.

So you looked at a display model? Demo.. More often than not, the display models are not always a great thing to make a proper decision on. Many times manufacturers would release pre production samples to networks. Its not ideal, as those are what consumers will get a look at, and base their decision on that.

I don't think there are calibration settings on the device to adjust the displacement. For some reason samsung hasnt included this. There is a menu to test the pen calibration though. I tried to do this on my Note 5 but nothing really fixed the issue.

Many sites recommend opening up an art app and drawing along the edge to re-calibrate the pointer but that has not worked for me. I wish Samsung included settings for it. For now I have to live with the 1-2mm displacement. It was all fine until i updated to Android M. My S-pen out the box was spot on before this.

I would think that the display models I looked at in store should be quite accurate and what we would get out the box if we purchase the device. They were live units which the Samsung reps were allowing us to use. They are also just a few days old so not many people would have handled them.

All other functionality worked spot on. Its just this s-pen thing which makes me worried. I have had Note devices since the note 2 and really love this device. I just hope it isn't an issue over time (which i experienced with my note 5)

A little feedback regarding Vodacom pre-orders.

I had to call their sales team. Spoke to an agent and were told that they have stock for pre-orders but the phone is not available for purchase. I then asked when they will be calling me regarding my pre-order, to which they replied stock is not yet available and I will be called once stock is available.

So now I'm a bit confused, do they have stock or not?

Useless bunch...

I'm seriously thinking of bringing one in from Malaysia. My friend is coming over in Dec. RM4000 (R12000) vs R18500 (RRP)......
