I was wondering if the Note has ICS here in SA, if not a proper Custom ROM.

For now I would prefer the official ROM and then to root it myself, a link to a rooting guide for ICS would also be great, Googles only getting me GB guides.
Should be getting my note in a few days. Too many of my essential apps need root so its very high on the list of things to do first.

Thanks

Would say it depends on where you got your Note from. Not sure if Vodacom have released or not.

Did my note through the FNB offer, had Turkish firmware and I managed to update about 3 weeks ago. Took a couple of attempts but all legit.

Battery drain was noticeable, but after a few days running till empty and charging back up again it is almost back to normal again. Get the official ICS from SamMobile if you really want to flash via Odin.

Getting the FNB one as well.

A bit off topic, but would love to know. How long dd you have to wait for them to deliver your device. I'm thinking of going that route, but I'm not sure I'll be able to wait very long for them to deliver the device...

Takes up to 10 days for everything.
15 if u call them, dont ask me why, I already complained.

For some really daft reason it 3 days for credit scoring after the 24 it takes ro send ur online application to a consultant, once thats done courier is 2-5 days. So best case scenario you wait 6 working data.

Strange how credit scoring for a phone is 3 days but a credit card is like 3 minutes.

Which rom did you get from SamMobile, the UK/Ireland one seems the most logical seeing as we here all use vodafone stuff anyway.

Oh, thats very good, I might be getting my Note in the next few days..... Something to look forward to.... :)

Yes it will be great if it finally happens. We've waited long enough.

Initial reports were that the release would be yesterday (Mon), but from within the same company Thu was also mentioned as release day. So hopefully, Thu it will be. Let's hope for the best.

I see that Samsung think Iran and Morocco (for example) are more important markets to release ICS to, before SA.

Given we are talking 48hrs to get a factory upgrade and no warranty concerns, I'm personally waiting for the official release at this point.

It is official, just not Vodacom official.

Personaly even 48 hours i long, I literally cannot use my phone without ICS, I have ICS dependent applications.

Reliable sources told me that ICS will be released in ZA this Thu 21st.

AFAIK, it will only be possible via Kies, not OTA.

This is excellent news - I was about two pages away from installing the UK version. Two days wait I can handle. Thanks for the excellent news.

Just checked on Kies

Just checked on Kies... no update available

I checked an earlier email and got the date wrong. It was actually supposed to be today, but after checking Kies just now, looks like Samsung internally is giving out information to the service centres that is not reliable. But perhaps the information was provided off the record.

Disappointing!

On flashing the ROM yourself - I saw this warning today. So you better do a **** load of research before you DIY:

Warning

Very important note: Just like firmware versions XXLPY, ZSLPF, and DXLP9, this current firmware (XXLQ2) carries the same huge bug (according to testers’ reports), with the potential to damage your SD card and brick your Galaxy Note if you wipe data, do a factory reset, or reformat partitions from recovery. So, to protect your device DO NOT wipe data, perform a factory reset, or reformat partitions from recovery after installing the XXLQ2 firmware.
